Danes launch bid to 'buy California' after Trump's Greenland threats

Danish campaigners are proposing to buy California from the United States and turn it into a territory of Denmark in response to Donald Trump's bid to acquire Greenland. The 'Denmarkification' campaign says it seeks to crowdfund $1 trillion to purchase the US state, after which it plans to instill it with Danish values and make the most of its sunny weather and resources. (...)
(...) Bosses from Danish toy giant Lego would run talks between the US and Denmark, Dutoit told Politico, because 'dealing with children throwing tantrums over missing bricks has made them experts in negotiation.' (...)

Fun fact Denmark doesn't have birthright citizenship. Trump could score a win in that regard by giving it to Denmark.

To be fair, in the Danes bought California, and made it part of Denmark, you wouldn't really be able to call or small anymore. California is roughly the same size as Germany+Austria.

If Canada wants to make an offer for the Western seaboard, they should speak up soon

17

Trump's over here saying canada should be the 51st state, meanwhile california, oregon, and washington are all like "peace out bitches!"

No need for that, as I understand it most Danes are able to carry a conversation in English. But you might need to ditch 12h clocks and switch to SI units of measurement.

And by new england, you mean all of what people call new england, but also NY, PA, OH, MI, IL. Sorry Indiana.....you kinda suck.

I vote "no" on Ohio, but the rest are welcome. Also, Maryland and Delaware can come too.

Isn't California's GDP about ten times that of Denmark?

I guess that purchase would be quite a bargain.

23

Does that mean we could stop supporting the red states of the US on our backs? We already have and love Legoland, might as wella add Hamlet.

No offense to the Danes, but I'd like to see what the Nederlanders are offering before we make a decision

19

Good choice.

Trump'd probably jump at the chance to get rid of California. Should have gone for Florida or Texas.

Of course... then you'd have Florida or Texas. Euch.

Oh please, we've been over this. You guys get to burn the white house, we bring kindling and a drum of gasoline. In return we get to kick comrade orangutan in the nads first and roast schmores on the house fire. As for the rest we split it with no dibs.

Great story, but I feel I should mention that the Daily Heil does not qualify as news, due to the sheer volume of disinformation it publishes.

There's no mention of it in news in Denmark.

All the tabloids are pointing to this page as "source": https://denmarkification.com/

It's obviously a satirical site. My guess is that it's made by an American.

According to the whois data, the site is registered to someone in Reykjavik, Iceland... Not that that necessarily is correct.

Normally, I would complain about someone posting a Daily Mail link, but this is fucking hilarious.

In these dark times it's great to see the Danes responding to unpleasant orange chauvinism and bigotry with dry humour. It kind of deflates the mafia boss's self importance.

I'm watching series 7 of a Danish TV programme called Badehotellet at the moment and it struck me that the Danish sense of humour it portrays is very much like the British, full of irony and self-deprecation. If they could buy the UK as well I'd be extremely happy.

Wait, no, he might take that deal and doom the rest of us to his bullshit for generations.
