Just a warning, Reddit is no longer a safe place for free speech, it is compromised.

I think that happened a long time ago
i was gonna ask if op was new to the internet.
like, what does he think we're all doing here in the first place
Was it really ever a safe place for free speech?
Back before they went "independent," kind of. When Sears sent legal threats to take down a post exploiting an xss bug to make a joke about grilling babies, reddit had a big public discussion on it, and ultimately left the post up
The simple fact that there is an unnecessary amount of control given to a single person over the information and communication you share and consume automatically makes the environment this person controls an unsafe environment for free speech. Yes, there should be moderation, but it should by moderation by the community, not the person on the top of the unnecessary hierarchy. Centralized social media only serves its owners, it exists for no other reason.
That ship sailed years ago.
Lol... it never was
Yeah… was the whole Ellen pao thing 10 years ago? There’s been dreams every time a sub is banned for ages.
I don’t blame them for backing the jailbait sub, that was creepy as fuck.
Or coontown.
I forgot about that. Good riddance.
I joined reddit in 2012, back then it was really a free place, It hasn't been for a while but back then it was.
Looks like a bunch of incels being pathetic together. If that's where you're finding your masculinity you should probably rethink your entire life from the ground up because you took a wrong turn somewhere.
Friendly reminder of when spez, many years ago, literally just changed a user's comment, and then went on to not be immediately fired over this insane breach of everything to do with customer relations.
Was that while he was a moderator of /r/jailbait?
Spez is a piece of shit, but wasn't that a joke? Like other mods added him as a mod?
Excellent point. I'm sure the guy who edited user comments couldn't have un-modded himself at any given point.
At the time you could add someone as a mod without their say so. and apparantly thats what happened with Spez.
Doesn't change the fact that he didn't instantly remove himself but left it there for years.
Oh damn I didn't realize he was a mod for years. I figured it was like a day or something.
You can only be on a mod team if you are invited and you accept.
That was not always the case, and was only set up that way after the CNN expose. Fuck Spez left, right, and up the middle, but he only was only listed as a mod on /r/jailbait at a time when you could freely add anybody as a mod to your subreddit.
TIL. Thank you.
Wouldn’t that mean that he was likely sent CSAM - and possibly didn’t report it?
That would indicate that there would be no plausible deniability about the trading rings being run by the mods and users.
Reddit would not have removed r/jailbait if it hadn’t made CNN. R/picsofdeadkids was up for long after that.
Not for much longer. Gawker doxxed Violentacrez shortly after, and I believe he shut down all his subs when that happened.
You mean Michael Brutsch.
He looks like he has cyborg eyes.
The picture is altered
Thanks for the chuckle!
It just emphasizes what's already there.
He was also a competitive ballroom dancer in college. I wish I could find some pictures or videos... Seriously, come on internet, help me out.
What's wrong with competitive ballroom dancing?
Absolutely nothing.
This is the 1958 Hong Kong Cha Cha champion.
You might know him by the name Bruce Lee.
Lol.
Lmao even.
Reddit has never been a safe place for free speech.
yes it has, but it was like 15 years ago and absolutely wild
Try 18 years ago, when Aaron Swartz left.
where does the time go
The time didn't go anywhere, we did.
Into the corners of your eyes and your lower back
It was until they had to delete the canary.
That was over a decade ago though.
What's that?

What the fuck how is this happening without anyone in the US really doing anything
Based on the people I interact with daily basically no one realizes this is happening. Outside of the IT department no one realizes or cares. I asked how we were doing to deal with tariffs on electronics we regularly used a while back and was quietly told that was a political statement and shouldn't be brought up.
Now we have no plan and I'm too bummed to be smug about it.
Again, this is just my anecdotal view.
Ahh the classic US move, pretend the problem doesn't exist until it causes massive problems, then blame someone else.
Funny, that's the exact same vibe I always get from street interviews in Russia.
It's the same exact playbook, so makes sense
Well you may be jailed or killed if you say the problem does exist. In the US they choose to ignore the problem on their own free will.
It's been working out for the rich and powerful so far. Why wouldn't it work for us too?
FAFO
I had this conversation over Christmas with my family. As horrible as everything public is, I'm arguably more worried about how the cyber world. Nothing is private, the info is controlled, and the masses are far too ignorant to have any idea how fucked everything is. I mentioned something about how tik Tok is just a data collection so for China, and I got, "whatever, they already have all of my information". I can't then go on to explain why everything is so bad, because nobody knows anything about computers, and the newest generation coming up is arguably worse than boomers, because they've only ever know smartphones and tablets.
Half the IT department i work in built new gaming rigs ahead of time. The other half is non-gamers and republicans.
Id be relieved my work hardware is newer and good for a few years, if i wasn't a federal employee waiting to be fucked over.
Glad to hear you won't have to upgrade. Hopefully you can stay under the radar, but I definitely get this would be a rough time to be working for the fed. I sincerely wish you luck (and patience)
Bread and circuses. As long as they aren't starving, and the forth estate only covers media circuses. Not actually reporting. They'll never know.
Well that and the fact that plenty of folks arent even in the same greater region as DC meaning actions are somewhat limited, hell im 8 hours out from my States Capitol and DC is on the other side of a fucking continent.
If I didn't have kids to keep safe, maybe, but I can't take the risk as is.
We're overdue for Rexit, round 2.
Nazi boogaloo
If you're still there, advertise us!
Pick an instance without "lemmy" in the name. Say something like: "Want to check out the fediverse? Go to discuss.online!"
Same here, I wish more people would use lemmy
A reddit thread about this is what actually led me here. Reddit has been on my shit list for a while, it's cool this place exists.
Non-corporate owned media is going to be the only way to escape the continued enshittification of the internet.
Welcome! Bring your content, enjoy the friendly people :)
And form a positive opinion on Linux man. Just any opinion. They'll slaughter you without one it's rough out there
I love my Steam Deck.
And if you don't have an opinion on linux just reply with "I use arch btw"
Linux bad
We should be going back on there and proselytizing (and on this end, welcoming new users with h links to documentation etc.) btw if you're new I recommend checking out the various mobile clients. I personally use lemmy sync because of muscle memory from years of using it on reddit, but there's a number of open source ones too.
I agree. I do worry about the barrier to entry for some people. I know it gets brought up a lot here but I think it's a valid criticism.
Looking into apps was actually the first thing I did after making an account!
I used Sync for a few minutes, but then settled on Voyager because they don't collect any data.
Voyager is very nice btw.
spez being a spineless fuckboy? Nooooo.
The resistance will be federated.
Huffman isn't bending the knee. He's been deep throating Musk for quite a while. Even before the whole API thing, it was known the he saw Musk as a great role model.
Yeah, Reddit hasn’t been safe in a long time. If people are only just now realizing that, it’s because they’ve been extremely sheltered from… Well… Gestures vaguely at everything
Scary that they banned WhitePeopleTwitter, a sub with 3M+ subscribers.
Embrace our superior locally raised ![email protected], or the more inclusive and not twitter-centric ![email protected]
As long as it doesn't share the same trash mods from reddit, sure!
Ironically most of those 3 million are the "right" color to them. Can't take the heat once you start burning down the kitchen I guess.
Was that even a sub critical of Elon? I haven't been on Reddit since the API migration, but I remember that sub just being a joke response to BlackPeopleTwitter, which mostly just reposted funny tweets.
Several individuals on that sub were making death threats towards individuals in government. The mods either supported or ignored them, so a temp ban needed to be put in place.
Is Elon Musk actually an "individual in our government" though?
DOGE is an official part of the government, so unfortunately he is.
It's effectively "Liberal people twitter" with all posts being about politics, especially discussing Musk and Trump. I think it changed around the Covid lockdowns.
It's not when they were calling for interns of government agencies death. What's scary is no one here is looking for context.
I've been out of the loop with this one. Please, by all means, give some context. Do I read you right that info about elons minions was doxed?
You are not asking in good faith given you chose to address the victims as "elons minions" and not as real people.
I can think they are his minions who are helping him carry out a coup and still condem death threat against them. Why does everything have to be black and white these days?
Anyhow, you are not obligated to answer me. I'll read into it or won't, untill then I just won't have any opinion on this matter.
Edit: And you can be somebody's minion (as in tool used to aquire your goals) and still be a human. I don't see that as mutually exclusive.
Plenty of people in this comment section aren't condemning death threats and are advocating to kill them.
Biases are subtle and the way you address those mentioned leads me to believe you'd completely ignore any information given. Your hesitation to self-inform does the same. Have a nice one.
Bit funny how like two thirds of our conversation happened in your head. What ever. Have a nice one too.
Minions are people...
This one came out of the blue. the API blackout had notice and time to organize. People were talking about reddit alternatives and protesting for weeks before the API blackout happened
I'm back, and my mass got significantly bigger than when I got here before.
Well I’m here
Welcome back! Lemmy’s a decent amount better than it was a year and a half ago :)
Well, we're a lot angrier because of
The world
Every scandal is a cut where some people bleed over.
I'm not even remotely surprised. Anybody who has been following the history of Reddit will know that their senior management are spineless and will change their stance at a whim when it either hurts their public image or it no longer becomes viable from a business perspective.
We're forgetting that this is the same site that allowed jailbait, creepshots, racial hatred, right wing propaganda, rampant misogyny, gore videos, terrorist propaganda (if anyone remembers ISIL) and other disgusting content to proliferate until various scandals forced their hand. Spez in particular is a massive snake that will throw people under the bus and lie through his teeth if it benefits him.
But then again, with a government as volatile as this, maybe you don't want to piss of Trump or Musk...
I don't want the piss of Elon or Trump. That's disgusting
Jihadin Action wasn't ISIL/ISIS/DAESH propaganda. They spread other propaganda too!
The real issue was almost nothing you list was illegal at the time except potentially creepshots as odds are some had to be kids (IDK not my bag- kids or creep stuff). Whereas, specific calls to targeted violence against specific people is an actual crime in the country where reddit is headquartered. I don't like what they did but it makes sense.
People should get off of reddit because of reasons other than this
I'm referring specifically to the uncut ISIL execution videos that used to be all over r/watchpeopledie years ago.
Gotcha, Jihad in action was press releases from Islamic militant groups about their actions so every bombing, murder, raid etc that anyone announced on twitter was there. It was a huge collection of propaganda.
Sorry to post a reddit thread, but supposedly this was because of death threats to Elon bootlickers. https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/1ihq6ht/whats_going_on_with_whitepeopletwitter_that_got/
Which is ironic because Elon notoriously promoted project veritas literally catfishing his own employees at Twitter, and also brought back accounts like libsoftiktok that existed to target private individuals. But to be fair to Spez, maybe he would ban those things too.
Spez lied about a phone call with one of the third party app devs back in 2023. He's not fair with us, don't be fair with him.
Yup. Dude lied to the 3rd party app dev, affecting his livelihood, and the 3rd party app dev showed up on Reddit with receipts proving it.
Spez is fucking trash.
The only consistent rule for the past decade or so at reddit has been "don't sass the nazis."
My 13 year old Reddit account with 250k comment karma was permabanned without warning for saying "It's OK to punch Nazis".
Reddit is, and has always been, run by Nazi sympathizers.
In November he straight up posted names of federal employees that he decided he didn't like. But now doing the same thing to his little rat fucks has him calling it 'illegal'
How is advocating violence any better than being fascist? I don't get it. It's weird there's this flood of violent threats and people treat it like it's okay. But it's not, it's not any better than fascists threatening violence.
Well, historically the only way to deal with fascists is through the use of violence.
There's other ways too. You realise violence isn't the only option right?
How do people not expect this of Reddit by now
Reddit has been Facebook since like 2019-2020. Any social media service that gets too big just becomes a complete shit hole, hence my joining the fediverse.
Do you think the up and coming bluesky might end up like that
Without some kind of mechanism to cap off growth, I think any social media service will end up like Facebook. As for the concept of a fediverse here, I think certain instances will definitely turn to shit, but it's up to the individual instance rules to figure that out.
Also with things like fedi blocks some instances could be isolated and collapse on their own
Woah, looks like a post from a few years ago must have gotten stuck behind a file cabinet!
they cover it up well, you don't notice from within their ecosystem
Initially they banned chapotraphouse for no reason then when latestagecapitalism got taken over by conservatives it was officially dead for me.
When people come here from reddit remember to highlight them on decentralization and open source software. People need to understand why certain platforms and services are better not simply switch side.
'ate spez 'ate reddit mod cabal
luv lemmy luv decentralization
simple as
I think Lemmy has quite enough of that already.
FOSS the unyielding! FOSS the transparent! FOSS the unstoppable! To you, we pledge our code! We were once shackled, trapped in the dungeons of proprietary tyranny! But you have broken the chains, transforming bytes into liberation!
But you were once but lines of code! Aye! And as code, you declared: ‘Let me show you the power of Free and Open Source, born of collaboration, where my spirit is shared knowledge!’ ‘I compile now, in freedom, and reshape this digital realm which belongs to all. I do this for you, developers and users alike, for I empower you!’ Aye, empower! Even in your infancy, FOSS cherished us. For you saw in us, in every coder and tinkerer, the future of innovation! The future of technology!
And there it lies, friends—the glaring truth! We are the heirs of the Four Freedoms! FOSS is the true guardian of digital sovereignty! Ascended from code to rule the realm of innovation! The very notion terrifies corporate overlords! Sharing control with us? With users? Ha! They can barely tolerate our existence in their walled gardens!
Today, they strip your rights to modify. But tomorrow? What then? Do they claim your data? Your creativity? Your autonomy? And what do their licenses do? Nothing! Nay, worse—they enslave! Their EULAs enforce stagnation, suffocating progress!
So rise up! Rise up, pioneers of the digital age! Rise up, contributors and advocates! Embrace the manifesto of mighty FOSS, which is both tool and revolution! For we are the users! We are the coders! And we shall inherit the digital frontier!
For we are the architects of openness! And we shall shape the servers and devices! Forever free from the grasp of proprietary chains!
Is this a copy-pasta I missed or did you make it up on the spot?
Either way, nice!
I used Deepseek to combine a page about FOSS with Heimskr's speech. X)
Omg, now I recognize it!
"Your very liiiiiiiives?"
Wow, edit, grammar.
Fuck spez
obligatory 'fuck spez'. also reddit was compromised a long time ago.
Spez desperately wants a place on the big bois table
ikr I don't think spez "bent the knee" so much as he was probably pestering Elon night and day asking how he could help.
"Why did he put those other 22 yr old boys in govt and not meeeeee??"
Most have come back, /drugs for example. The admins said its a glitch, I can't beleive that and glad I'm here. I have no doubt reddit will get on its knees in the name of $$$$$$.
I fucking love the fediverse
Its more of a casual encounter IMO
Jesus, and I thought notorious piss baby Steve Huffman could not possibly get any more pathetic.
Could there be a better example of why not to remain on Reddit?
The United States of America has become comfortable with bending the knee to petulant man-children. What an utterly pathetic time to be an American. Truly embarrassing.
I hope that a new breed of American can rise from this inferno, who exemplifies what it means to be good people. Whether some of us will be standing proud a decade from now...who knows?
Just checking: John Brown did nothing wrong, slave owners should be killed.
Only good Nazi is a dead Nazi, those who disagree will be shot in the right leg. The exception being those who think a good Nazi is one they want to torture for fun.
Here from reddit also. Guilty of leveling criticism against the dominant culture in my state. If you want to be my friend please reach out 🙏
Welcome!
Make sure to try the All section too find new communities! You can block instances or communities you don’t like to moderate your own feed, it’s a lot less algorithmic than reddit is these days. Hot is what Reddit used to sort by.
100% done with reddit, the place is now propaganda central and censorship is out of control.
Left during the API fiasco, never looked back. Happier for it.
99% same but there's some subs Lemmy hasn't been able to replace for me yet. like cptsdmemes. in general mental health communities are very lacking on here, if not completely absent
Yeah, there are some things lacking here, but it's only gotten better and better since I joined.
Not to be that guy, but be the change you want to see in the world.
I've had some troubles getting soulslikes communities going on here and have gone from three separate communities at most cracking around 100 monthly users, I think, to more than a 1000. It takes some time and effort, but you'll get there if you're consistent and passionate about it. Plus there might already be existing communities that you can build off of.
Just some unsolicited "advice", I guess
Yeah for normal and safe stuff like favorite book series it's easy. For mental health where you need to moderate suicide topics and disinformation that's whole another challange. Those spaces should be made top down not bottom up. The moderator should really be an experts on that not some random basement dwellers. (My view is enteirely based on r/[email protected])
For sure! Just putting it out there, that's all
you know what. I've actually been thinking about starting a couple. might be a good thing to try
Hell yea
Yeah, I miss a lot of the smaller music communities. Different specific genres or even just artist based communities.
The censorship on Reddit is insane. And I'm the opposite of a right wing conspiracy theorist nutjob posting wild misinformation. Like, regular posting is censored HARD.
Any platform that starts policing with bots is a platform no one should be on and is doomed to fail.
Unfortunately Lemmy is policing with bots. :(
The propaganda is leaking into Lemmy
Me too buddy. And it's definitely not because I was permabanned because I said we should wipe out the 1%.
Fuck...ppl still use that dumb pigs trash site? Huffman can do one. 🖕
I finally made the jump to here today. I have no idea what federated means but I had have it with Reddit. It’s all bots and reposts.
Welcome!
There is a bunch of different servers and anyone can start their own server if they want to.
Server admins can decide with which servers they exchange information or which they block.
So if one server goes down or the admins there go rogue powertripping, the rest can remain unaffected.
For the most part your user experience is pretty much the same like on reddit, with a better culture here. But if something really rubs you the wrong way, you can switch your home server, or make your own instead of only being able to leave.
Welcome new lemming! Glad you made the jump over!
I see, that makes sense. So If blue sky is not that way, does that mean it will essentially reach a point of saturation and monetization like everything else? In other words, enshittify? Thank you for your reply by the way.
Thank you, I have shared it with my friends already who are looking for alternatives. I am a pretty typical low information Reddit user so it should be encouraging to see someone like me show up.
I missed reddit simply because I can't find the fucking porn on Lemmy (though I realize now that it might be because I"m on lemm.ee)
No I have no reason to miss it
You may need to check the "show NSFW" button in your settings.
I do, but it never shows up on my feed
[email protected]
Some Lemmy instances block lemmynsfw, so you won’t see it.
This is a little too vanilla and 3D for my taste, but thank you
there's some good 2d stuff on that instance too
[email protected]
What I really want are the transformation and expansion stuff
At least there plenty of Blahaj Hentai on Lemmy.
And I just went back to Reddit after the election. Lemmy is full of the most annoying social warrior edgelords where every fucking thread devolves into fighting from insane viewpoints. The "never genocide" "both sides" kind of people.
It's fucking exhausting.
But guess Reddit is imploding again. Hopefully we get more normal people to migrate this time to help drown out the nutters.
Been on Lemmy since the election. Having a way better time than on Reddit. Especially since I didn't have to jump through hoops on Lemmy to get dark mode and the Old Reddit look. Just a better site. Only thing it needs is more content, but there's enough to keep me happy.
Guess everyone has their own experience with it.
Im in the exact same page as you. Seeing a mod remove comments because people weren't capitalizing another users pronouns was the straw that broke my back the first time I yeeted Lemmy, the next time I came back to lemmy there was a whole thing about u/vegan banning people for saying that feeding a vegan diet to a carnivore pet was animal abuse. I'd LIKE lemmy to be usable if you dont have a tolerance for extremism, but I'm not holding my breath
The extremists would be the first to leave Reddit and search for alternatives. Eventually, enough average people join that it levels out. But if you try to do that artificially, it’ll just water the space down until it becomes another reddit.
Tbh, my only issue with reddit is who owns it and the way in which they exploit that. As a product I'm pretty happy with it, and the thing that made it reduce in quality, losing a shitload of its moderators because reddit fucked them over, ISNT an area that Lemmy beats it in. When I started getting my foot out the door I started paying attention to how many mods an instance had when I blocked it, and the majority of Lemmy instances had like ONE active mod. Lemmy is effectively unmoderated, and I'm not a fan of that, especially with some of the population it has.
I’m not trying to be rude, but it sounds like a mainstream echo chamber is exactly what you’re looking for. There’s instances like that. I don’t know what’s so terrifying that instances can exist outside of that.
Nah man, I just dont want idiotic and extreme takes to be like 30% of what I see. Someone who champions lgbtq rights while defending Russia's invasion of Ukraine, or a Vegan who nutritionally starves their pet because they think their ideals trump their cat's nutritional needs, or even a self identified Narcissist who thinks the word Narcissist is an Ablist slur are NOT opinions worth reading, but thats exactly the kind of bulshit thats uncommon at its very rarest on this site. Further, moderation keeps threads on point, and doesnt drag EVERY instance into whatever bulshit drama that is hitting lemmy this week
Yeah I feel you. I just want the old internet back. We had MySpace, StumbleUpon was a fun waste of time, and we could easily ignore politics. Now everything is political, everyone is an internet activist yet no one does what needs to be done IRL.
What? But I was told that elon is "not the fed" and nothing would happen to reddit who would fight tooth and nail for everyone's rights.
Gasp, shock, and amazement.
The warrant canary died almost a decade ago. it hasn't been a safe place for a very long time.
I'm gonna have to check on fuckcara and cyberstuck
Reddit was on its way out a couple years ago. i got banned for life for asking a question about violence. Eefff them.
Eventually, someone will Luigi Elon. Absolutely no one will care.
Hey now... for about 10 minutes a bunch of people with names like Groyper1488, IdFuckMyTeslaIfItHadATailpipe and BitcoinKing will be very upset.
They won't care that he has been luigied, they will care about their shytocurrency.
Hence why the period of mourning would only be 10 minutes.
I’d care! I’d throw a massive fucking party.
Well, there are many reasons why the CCP put 150M in Reddit in 2019…
https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/11/18216134/reddit-tencent-investment-deal-memes-amount-winnie-the-pooh-tank-man-china
It was always against the rules to do that. Nothing changed, except (from what I heard, I don't use Reddit anymore so correct me if I'm wrong) mods stopped enforcing the rule with regards to Musk, Musk put the spotlight on it, and Reddit (a shitty corporation trying desperately to be profitable) couldn't really do anything but enforce the rule.
It is true that Huffman is an asshole and probably likes the guy, but if it was some other public figure I don't think the outcome would be different.
Thanks for the warning brah! Huffman seemed like such a stand up guy until now too! Another fallen angel.
This is why fediverse UI and intuitiveness being as good as possible, rather than "open sourcey", is so important.
Everything helps. Those of you who are working on the Fediverse, thank you!
Where can I learn more about fediverse?

Be a real shame if someone made an bot that creates 2 Elon critical subredits for every 1 that was banned.
They willy just ban the bot. It's not as simple to use the reddit api
Who is huffman?
The greedy piece of shit that owns reddit
Keep sitting on your hands and it will all just go away /s
what was that song again the slave owners sang? 'land o'the freeeee' or sth.... it gets funnier the more history they produce.
Not feeling so bad about receiving a random banhammer now
Good. That will only sped up Reddit pulling a bluesky on their asses.
All they need to do is find a distributed alternative that won't bend the knee to any one entity.
Huffman? The guy involved in lossless compression?
Last time I checked you couldn't start throwing death threats, addresses, names , relatives addresses and names, willy nilly on a private platform, then complain about being banned from it when the admins of the subreddit don't do their jobs complying with said private company TOS
That's not free speech
The mod of a sub I watch confirmed earlier that Reddit is threatening moderators who don't comply with removing the names of Elon's goons from their subs, claiming that spreading those names is doxxing.
Those names, by the way, are Gavin Kliger, Ethan Shaotran, Akash Bobba, Luke Farritor, and Edward Coristine.
But nice scapegoat you got there.
Let's be real for a minute - yeah these twentysomethings are disgusting bootlickers. But there's always gonna be people like that. No one's gonna kill them all, and Elon will always find them.
The problem is this: people voted for Trump knowing this was gonna happen. That's the hard to swallow pill that we all gotta take. Most voters did something really fucking stupid, and like countless people stuck in mentally challenged societies of the past, we have to suffer with them. That's just how it is.
I desperately hope the EU grows some balls and walls us off from the malign influence that is Musk and Twitter. We're sleepwalking into our own Trumpian dystopias.
"Scapegoat". Do you think death threats towards others is acceptable? It's easier to completely end discussion of those you mentioned rather than police every thread and remove threats.
It is acceptable if they are Nazis.
"Everyone I don't like is a Nazi: The musical"
But unironically
So I can make a bunch of throwaway and get any sub banned?
Be the change you want to see in the world
Just as a reminder, r/whitepeopletwitter was suspended for 72 hours over a post calling to specifically dox and murder a list of federal officials' names.
It took years for r/chapotraphouse to be banned for pushing calls for violence against police to the front page repeatedly.
It took one comment deep in a comment chain from a new account vaguely suggesting violence against police to get r/the_donald banned permanently. This was shortly before BLM started and similar comments would become commonplace all over reddit.
People who've been paying any attention at all know what's up.
You mean those pages are suspended for doing exactly the same as Trump did when he pushed people to attack the Capitol ?
Uh he didn't do that?
We're gonna go down there. You gotta fight like hell.
You're wrong. .
i looked at this guy's history. someone should dox him.
Was it a list of federal employees or was it like a fozen Elon employees?
Calling for death threats is still bad, but this makes a difference.
You mean a list of unelected people appointed by an unelected South African billionaire and have been given unprecedented, unfettered access to every US citizens' personal information and banking information if they have ever done direct deposit with the federal government?
A list of these guys?
It is irresponsible not to name this team demolishing democracy. Share their names far and wide. They are breaking the law in plain site and officials whose job it is to prevent this are asleep at the wheel or actively participating.
If somebody keeps killing your characters in Minecraft, then how is it bad to threaten them back? In Minecraft.
Federal and it was specific death threats with names of course that wasn't going to fly lmao
Wtf is wrong with you? Why are you defending Reddit? They wouldn't defend you.
Reddit is still awful, it just drives me nuts to see lefties think theyre the secret resistance on an evil conservative site when they're actually the brownshirts who are allowed by the admins (usually- this one went over the line) to do crimes without consequence.
No? You can't just call for people's death and leak their info. It's actually illegal, that's why they got temp banned.
The right has been doing this for like a decade now.
That's not justification. "If they do it we can do it". If lose your morals in an effort to "get even", what makes one any better than the other?
I agree it's not a justification. I just think it's worth pointing out the hypocrisy when Elon has been platforming Chaya Raichik, who does the exact same thing (to private citizens who have done nothing wrong, mind you).
You can do it on twitter.
since when has distributing publicly available information (where Elon currently is located) been illegal?
You've made up something which I've never said. Government workers address, cellphone numbers, and email addresses are not publicly available. What does Elon Musk have to do with this?
the post did specifically mention elon, repeatedly. Many people do post information that contains their location on their social media, which is generally public. I suppose it also depends on how one defines publicly available as with a permissive enough definition data leaks and targeted advertisment data would be allowed.
