Consider reporting it to the admins of the instance.

I've done that same thing with a similar sort of instance, and mods banned the community and the moderator from their instance.

Reporting works.

Community is called "thoughts".

Only one poster visigoth_860 who is also the mod.

Am I allowed to pee in the popcorn? because I got some thoughts.

29

Well, that's a user tag I didn't expect to have to make. Gross.

16

Good riddance!

Edit: in case you missed it and was curious what it was... it was about 6 or 7 posts all from that same guy over the span of about a year, all of which were long winded rants complaining about "ageism" and concluding that the age of consent should be lowered to 14.

13

I looked at some of the posts. One had an admin commenting on it, so I don't think they care.

8

5 posts and 10 comments from the profile too...

Like, technically it's a "mod" but they just made a random tiny community on a small instance.

This is something you just DM admins about, I was under the assumption it was a major sub with implicit approval of that instances admins.

Edit:

Nevermind, at least one admin commented on that community and while they disagree, they're fine letting the user continue to advocate for pedophilia

Age gap sex isn't harmful

Uhh OK mayyybe?

Chris Hansen damaged society

Chris Hansen damaged society

There's a sincere argument that turning "Pedo Hunting" into a consumer spectacle has done nothing to deter the act of child sex trafficking and exploitation, but been fantastic for the NextDoor community of busybodies and concern-trolls. The #MeToo movement has flatlined. I don't see any real efforts to provide financial aid or social assistance to kids targeted for sex work. But lots of local news sites seem obsessed with elevating allegations of sex between kids to the front pages.

Reminds me of the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, wherein 12,000 unsubstantiated cases of Satanic ritual abuse were reported and investigated by prosecutors leaning into the national media trend and looking to make headlines. Right now, we've got a flood of Trans-Panic and Gay-Panic news articles that try and conflate kids going through hormone therapy with psycho-leftist parents doing mass grooming.

Doesn't look like this guy gives a shit about LGBTQ civil rights. But those that do are chronically aware of how simply being queer can get you tossed in the same category as creeps and predators.

78

I also remember hearing somewhere that the show tainted so many cases with bad practices and horrible evidence gathering techniques that they couldn't get convictions once the proper authorities were involved.

40

Yeah, there have been some cases of "pedo hunters" here; turned out to be a flimsy cover story for violent nazis.

It's, uh, not a topic suited for thoughtless entertainment.

18

Social media dorks keep trying to emulate hansen but keep "accidentally" getting the wrong person. And when they do get the right person all it does is warn them they got got and it's time to skedaddle before the actual cops show up.

11

Sexuality in general isn’t a good topic for public debate

The topic typically revolves around the idea of "public safety". But public safety in the American context appears to be fixated on state surveillance and the prosecution of religious taboos. The end result is a country where things that are taboo (namely publicly facing queer sexuality) get pursued aggressively while things that aren't taboo (older richer whiter men taking advantage of their younger and more vulnerable peers in cloistered settings) get swept under the rug. And the end game is the local news running mugshots of the poorest, saddest, ugliest fucks on the planet for soliciting publicly, while the owners of the parent media companies do Epstein tier shit in the executive lounge of a remote island high rise.

Sexuality and its criminality mirrors the expression of the social power dynamic. You didn't see Chris Hansen catching anyone in $10,000 business suit on his show.

10

I've archived it. I think that it's important for transparency.

I appreciate that. On Reddit, it can be difficult to follow the breadcrumbs as stuff just gets nuked and we have to blindly trust OP.

Dude the mental gymnastics this guy tries to put you through to try and justify trying to make leftists okay with him wanting to fuck 15 year olds is insane. And you can tell he thinks he’s WAY smarter than he actually is.

10

He’s also trying to posit the idea that the left is losing elections because they won’t embrace pedophilia and that is alienating male voters. Which is an insane take.

9

Sex with minors? With an age gap bigger than like 2 years, no. But close in age is fine, like 17 and 18.

20 year olds want 15 year olds

Uh...

Matt Gaetz

Oh. Oh no.

52

Yeah I can tell you right now, as someone who has been a 20 year old man, they absolutely do not want to be with 15 year olds unless something is very wrong with them.

4

It's amazing how easily he stretched a 20 year to 15 year age gap to Matt Gaetz, who is like 40 years old.

4

Can I apply that logic to other hot button issues related to children making decisions about sexuality and their bodies, or would that get me banned?

Are the issues of children making decisions in the room with you?

Are you planning to find a ragebait website with a history of misinformation and clear bias about one incident that you've now use as a blanket statement of your entire worldview?

18

Are you comparing trans kids receiving gender affirming care to being able to have sex with adults? Because it certainly sounds like that's what you are insinuating here. If so that is an incredibly transphobic bad faith comparison.

What do you guys think? Personally the language used here lines up pretty well with the dogwhistles most TERFs use to attack gender affirming care like puberty blockers but I'd love to hear what you have to think.

From you

wild hypocrites

From wiki

Tu quoque (/tjuːˈkwoʊkwiː/;[1] Latin for 'you also') is a discussion technique that intends to discredit the opponent's argument by attacking the opponent's own personal behavior and actions as being inconsistent with their argument, so that the opponent appears hypocritical.

You're doing exactly that. Nobody is talking about whatever else you're thinking about and it's irrelevant.

22
slrpnk.net

Pretty sure they’re taking about providing trans kids puberty blockers.

3
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Not what the discussion in the thread was about and I'm pretty sure the original post wasn't either.

1

I’m talking about what ogmios was alluding to without ever coming out and saying. It’s a pretty common tactic with transphobes to equate supporting trans kids with letting children make adult decisions. Their “logic” is “if a fourteen year old can’t decide to fuck an adult they can’t possibly be responsible for knowing their gender doesn’t match what they were assigned at birth.”

7

Yeah, quite aware that's the mod and thought I said as much. Should I reword it to make it clearer that both the mods I refer to are the same?

15

You can DM the instance admins and report directly. I've had to do that for a single-moderator community before, where the mod could operate with relative impunity.

7

Should probably report this stuff to their instance admins. That way it disappears completely, that's a better solution than pretending things don't exist, especially when it comes to shit like this where the person is a pedophile.

I'd also suggest letting your local instance admins know about it since once they know they can ban the user with content removal which will wipe out he community on those instances as well.

6

Yikes this is not good, this person probably should not be a mod of this community, or any community really. Sticking up for pedophilia is a really bad thing to do and also probably could get the instance in legal trouble. This is way past power tripping in my opinion, it could be a legal issue for the instance.

lemmy.cafe's admins should probably look into this and possibly kick out this mod, since it could possibly cause them some big issues later if he dos anything like this in the future.

Edit: Archive.is Link CW: Pedophilia apologia.

lemmy.today

this person probably should not be a mod of this community, or any community really

That's not possible, because it's their own community and they're the only poster in it. When this person inevitably gets banned and their community wiped, they'll just register at another instance and make their own community there and continue. I don't think that's worth paying attention to - such behaviour just fundamentally cannot be eliminated without getting rid of the fediverse's freedom.

0

Then they'll get banned from there too, or they'll get banned on all the big platforms and be effectively making their community irrelevant for everyone not on their instance. The thing is there are a finite number of instances and almost all of them have strict rules against this crap. If you start your own like people suggest, you still have to follow their rules or else they stop federating with you, taking the majority of the userbase with them.

6

I think we can say this one is about wrapped up, they banned his mod account and the community from lemmy.cafe. Maybe he'll start another somewhere else, but when that happens someone can just make another post.

18

link says couldnt_find_post

if you wanna reiterate about a conversation online, it would be good to include screenshots of what was actually written. otherwise it's hard to follow.

edit: nvm i found an archive in the comments

15

Yikes, that post has a real ick factor! Like a pedo apologist’s essay, and what do you want to bet he’s a horny 20 yo?

15

The part that really squicked me out was combining the drinking with the underage. Like they need to impair a naive person's judgement even more to have a chance. No way this guy has any game.

19

9

Yeah, post has been deleted, and was locked before that.

3

I downvote random posts all the time while scrolling. I like to think I usually catch it but I'm sure I miss a few. Whenever I get random downvotes on innocuous comments I just assume it's from someone else doing the same.

6

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Conversely I hate when I up vote really bad stuff on accident.

4
reddthat.com

I've seen someone on lemmy make that very same argument. That person seems quite delusional.

8

One caveat to the second one. Child molesters go into the woodchipper. As long as they're a "nonpracticing" pedo who is going to therapy and knows that their attraction to children is wrong then they're fine. It is a mental illness after all. But the moment they do anything to a child then straight to a woodchipper, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

A paedophile is a person who's sexually attracted to children before they hit puberty, so they lose interest in them around 10 or 11 years old. That weird (ex-)mod and all of you in here are talking about Ephebophilia, the primary sexual interest in mid-to-late adolescents, generally ages 15 to 19.
(I'm not arguing in favor of any of this!)

lemmy.world

Everybody who gets banned from anywhere has to face that their personal definition of what happened does not match somebody else's. I say this from experience.

-17
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Translation: This person doesn't believe the OP and is attempting to insinuate that OP is just whining about being banned. This sentiment reeks of appeal to authority bias/fallacy and isn't constructive in this community.

Additionally it's not correct since the moderator of said community has expressed sentiment that advocates, excuses, or otherwise finds acceptable, sexualization of minors, in other words pedophillia. I'm not going to debate this, here's a snapshot of the post the mod likely panic deleted, it's disgusting pedophilia apologia.

7

Translation: this person thinks they have psychic power to read my mind. Truth is my comment was meant to commiserate with OP. As I mentioned, I was saying what I said from my own experience. Anyway there's a thing called "projection" where people read into something what they would mean if they said that, which is probably what we're both doing.

It's good to be skeptical, but this case it's very real

1

I agree with you, and I don't know why you're assuming I'm skeptical of OP. How am I not making it clear that I'm on OP's side? I think OP and I had similar experiences with blahaj - a mod or mods decided we were being hostile when we both meant to be objective. Same thing seems to be happening with the douchevotes I'm getting here. Climb out of your bunkers, folks, you're not under attack.
