He appeared shocked because he's joking about being shocked, which often includes "appearing shocked."

shocked

Omg huffpo, that wasn't shocked. That was Jost knowing exactly what would happen.

They got me with their clickbait this time 😢

This is the same SNL that invited Elon Musk to host only 3 years ago.

This is so dumb—watch the video! The whole joke was that “Bumble exploded”—would someone who didn’t know Luigi Mangione is popular make that joke?

Note that for Weekend Update, Colin Jost and Michael Che write the jokes for each other, and they don't see them until they're reading them live.

lemmy.world

I thought they only swap jokes on the last episode of the season, which this one was

25

Maybe? That's what I've seen in all the clips, so maybe those are the only funny ones that get shared.

2

Regular episodes is a combination of their own jokes and jokes from the other.

1

The joke swap is a frequent feature, but it's not a universal property of Weekend Update.

The joke was a bit strange, was it supposed to be that people are thirsty for him? I didn't get the punchline

Are you either not American or living under a rock? Everyone is thirsting after him. The joke is not “strange” unless you do not understand what a physically attractive person is.

I'm not American, I didn't know it was like that, it kinda reminds me of that black mirror episode "Fifteen Million Merits"

The hero we deserve is pretty popular. Who woulda thought. I do not advocate his method. I simply like that people feel represented.

54
lemmy.world

I would never advocate his method as a first option, but it’s not like the healthcare companies just now started hurting people. Lots of people over lots of time, eventually that distills into one shot of very strong liquor

25
lemmy.world

Yep. How many decades are people supposed to wait while they see that their votes never get them any sort of change no matter which of the two corporatist parties who take money from that industry are in charge? If voting and protesting doesn’t work, what option is left?

At least Mangione did something, and he did it at great personal sacrifice.

I do advocate his methods. I hope he inspires many more heroes. I hope 2025 is the year of many more dead parasites.

I think your post might be illegal speech in most of the U.S. as inciting violence. Take care of yourself.

0

Oh… seems I totally made some typos in that last post. I totally meant to say I do not condone this super cool guy’s actions, and obviously who doesn’t want to see a bunch of dead parasites. Nobody likes bedbugs and tapeworms.

Drag talks about dragself in the dragth person. Drag sounds like drag was dropped on drag's head a few times.

25
lemmy.world

And "dragself" had an alt account where they posted a bunch of queerphobic stuff to attack another user, totally exposing the game. I wish more people knew that.

10

What. The person who said that was just beign a transphobic troll and harassing themself. Idk, man, it's kinda obvious :/

You should provide evidence to your claims before making wild accusations such as those.

-6

No, yeah, I recognise this kookaburra’s handle, they’re OUT there, don’t try to make sense of it

4

Bro... I think you need to take a step back and set the crack pipe down. He's guilty. Hell, he's guilty as fuck. He 100% did it. And I celebrate the hell out of him for it. That man is a fucking hero for doing what he did. Go Luigi. I hope with every fiber of my being that when it goes to trial, the jurors say "not guilty" despite knowing that he's guilty as fuck. That probably won't happen because reality just ain't cool like that, but that's what I hope.

Stop saying you don’t advocate it. There is seriously nothing wrong with killing people who hurt other people, especially for profit. There is nothing wrong with advocating for their death, after literally everything else has failed.

I really hope this becomes as frequent as school shootings. Maybe those school shooters will find a more appropriate way to vent whatever that crap is.

10

I don't want to get banned or have my post removed. I say the words that help prevent that from happening. I may say different words when I'm in private spaces.

4
scutigerreply
lemmy.world

I disagree. I think it's perfectly fine to be against the death penalty, which is basically what this was, minus the judicial process.

2
ramsorgereply
discuss.online

So what do you think should happen to people who kill people through policy and are not ever going to be prosecuted? Those people will never get justice, but you seem to be fine with that?

4
scutigerreply
lemmy.world

I'm not fine with it personally. I think bad people at the very least need to be kept in check.

I do think that being against the death penalty is a valid opinion. "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" and such.

2
ramsorgereply

So let people indirectly kill people for profit while doing nothing because you’re too moral to poke their eye out?

2

Well, when no justice is occurring in the justice system, this is the logical next step.

1

If you watch the clip he's only caught off-guard that the audience didn't even wait for a punchline; he clearly isn't totally surprised that people support him at all

32
lemmy.ml

it seems like colin or his script was under pressure to not say anything that showed any support. that is definitely censorship.
i don't think he would have said anything shocking. but still.. he said nothing.

25
modusreply
lemmy.world

Well of course it's censorship. It's NBC. Owned by Comcast. Colin is thinking of the shareholders. Why aren't you?

2

I doubt he's thinking about the shareholders, I'm sure his thinking is more immediate, like keeping his job.

Are there still alt youtube front end instances? The videos georestricted in Canada :(

4
NotSteve_reply
lemmy.ca

Thank you! Unfortunately it still doesn't work :(. Says it failed to fetch the video. I'm assuming probably because of the georestriction

1

worked for me so the georestriction isn't the reason.

there should be an invidious instance aggregator out there somewhere

1

Refresh the page or select different instance or try YouTube embedded link, although I’m sure if the embedded link would be georestricted.

1

I do actually have a VPN but I only use it on my seedbox lol. I should really set it up on my other devices

The first video was a response from the police maybe? Calling anyone who defended his murder as vile. Am I vile for thinking that the leader of a corporation that chooses to deny life saving care for share holders dying is a good thing for the lives of many? Maybe it's not a proper societal action... Barbaric even... But why don't they say the same thing when it's someone's loved one who is being denied care? Or, better yet, the tens of thousands who have been denied?

18

The richy-richy-richersons don't understand. And Colin is rich from his partner's wealthy lifestyle work.

They just don't get it. I am against the murder as much as I am against the murder of abortion doctors.

But if you have had this system sitting on your head for any amount of time ...

18

Cowardly Attack

Everyone knows that it takes real bravery to simple die while waiting for your lawsuit against your insurance company to process. /s

9

Yes, definitely wooing for justice. No more "just us."

8

That is why I kinda loath all these rich asshats. The totally don't get why we think the guy did a service to humanity.

5

He said "you are wooing for justice, right?" in a joking manner. The article is just clickbait.
