Brainrot zoomer language was pioneered by members of our generation, yet is cringe to us. Same with "XD :3 ><" and the generation before us. Stuff becomes cool because older people start it, only for younger people to embody it. "UwU" is a gift that we ought to respect (≧ω≦)

I'll buy that for a dollar.

It does feel like the same kinda gibberish my buddies and I were spouting in our heyday, just evolved

The G.I. Joe videos and strongbad. But I am le tired.

It was us man. We were there

lemmy.dbzer0.com

it was moderately post ironic for us, when we used it. It went from being a once in a while thing just to add some additional slang. To a post hyper irony period where the joke is that the words we used dont make any sense and have no meaning, therefore you can just do that with EVERY word.

At the time, I was too busy glaring at the concept of irony being used incorrectly to know any of the slang you are referring to.

"We know we didn't literally die laughing. We're saying it ironically!"

This may be the most unsettling video I've seen in a while. Upvoted.

Unsettling? I always get a big pleasant wave of nostalgia when I watch it.

2

It's my first time watching this particular video -- I remember when the Internet was like this, but I didn't remember what the digg website looked like or the YouTube or whatever, and the little ad games where you blow up a terrorist and all the hate in the flame war comments lol, I think I forgot a lot of it for a reason.

It brings me joy to hear someone call them emoticons.

19

Every once in a while I call my picture an avatar just to remind people "profile pic" is boring and "pfp" doesn't actually mean that.

Nightcore is an edgy as fuck name for just being the chipmunk-ification of any given song.

I was so disappointed when teenage me discovered that.

32
lemmy.dbzer0.com

its not that edgy. Or is there nightcore lore im not familiar with?

It's just taking music and then speeding it up and pitch shifting it lmao. Seems like an appropriate name to me.

3
lemmy.dbzer0.com

no i picked up on that, i guess i just don't see how it's supposed to sound edgy.

Perhaps you just perceived it as such and im thinking way too hard about this lmao

3
midwest.social

To me, it's that they had to come up with a name for it since I doubt anyone would want to admit to liking Linkin Park - In The End (Chipmunk Version) rather than Nightcore Remix by xXRavenXx

1

that might be it, it's definitely an odd sub-genre of music, but there are similar things in other samples pulled into other songs. Vaporwave being a fairly similar aesthetic just sort of backwards.

No idea what the etymology of nightcore is, but i'm sure it's interesting.

I feel bad for Cincinnati more than Cleveland. Tis a silly place.

Dayton and Toledo can F right off

3
lemmy.world

Cincinnati is so mid tier it hurts. Cleveland is fun in a very great lakes industrial city way.

I've never been to Toledo so I must assume it's fine at best. Dayton though, Dayton will always be my hellhole

Zorsithreply
lemmy.blahaj.zone

Toledo is so, so much worse. There's just nothing there, on an entirely different scale compared to dayton. At least dayton is close to other places. Toledos claim to fame is the Goodyear blimp. That's it.

And Cincinnati has plenty of cool stuff like museums and a surprising amount of good food

3
lemmy.world

OK yeah Cincinnati has pretty good food. It's just that its middle eastern food is fine compared to Dayton (really Beavercreek). Dayton also has excellent Vietnamese food.

And yeah Cincinnati's problem in my experience is that it has a lot of the same draws as Columbus (food and museums), but usually worse

3

Oof, it's been too long since I've had vietnamese... might have to head to Linhs. Dayton is definitely lacking in good Middle Eastern food. surprisingly good Mexican food though

I put four spaces at the end of each line just in case.
Like this.
And that.

Four spaces was helpful, but I can't scooch the ears over. Also I tried carat eyes originally but they don't format near the underscore

2
The other thing you can do is put it entirely within a code block.

Then it should keep your spaces and enters.

You gotta use three ` above the code block, and then three ` below
