Others are advocating for Biden to commute the sentences of federal death row prisoners. His attorney general, Merrick Garland, paused federal executions. Biden had said on the campaign trail in 2020 that he wanted to end the death penalty but he never did, and now, with Trump coming back into office, it’s likely executions will resume. During his first term, Trump presided over an unprecedented number of federal executions, carried out during the height of the pandemic.

Yeah, well watch that not happen.

America's bloodlust can never be satiated.

Trump will probably bring back gladiatorial combat as a Twitter video exclusive.

I was hoping Roberson would have gotten a reprieve. Bloodlust’s in Texas won’t listen to anything at all.

2

People have loved gladiatorial combat since time immemorial.

I mean look at the popularity of Pokemon even to this day. It's basically baby's first Mandingo fight. Even kids can see the appeal of sending creatures enslaved to you to fight each other :>

As much as I know Demos are better than Repubs, this is one of those areas where they are the same picture. Long live the ruling class!

Luigi will almost certainly only face state level charges. The President can only pardon federal charges.

For state level charges, it would have to be the governor, right? Maybe the governor of NY could do him a solid.

8

I mean, I don't think any US politician could do so without it being career suicide. I don't know Hochul's policies, but she probably didn't get the governorship by being an anticapitalist.

4

What could Joe do for state/local crimes? He only has power to pardon federal crimes.

I can't wait for crime to spike in Trump's term and then have Biden blamed for it because of this.

26

You don't need to wait. You can just scroll down to the other comments right now! :D

Meh. These are people who were deemed too sick and old to be any kind of threat during the fucking Trump administration and released from prison back then because of the pandemic. These people should have all gotten pardons years ago, and it doesn't do anything to alleviate or address all the suffering and human rights abuses being suffered by people who are actually in prisons.

These people should have all gotten pardons years ago

So you agree it is good.

5

Commutations, not pardons.

They're still convicted felons, and we must assume deservedly so (I acknowledge some crimes are bullshit, eg marijuana charges).

They don't particularly deserve pardons, they deserve humane sentences for their crimes -- actual rehabilitation, mental health support, etc.

Good! It was bullshit to just pardon his son. Everyone deserves a chance to escape this hellhole.

13

Did you really think he would only pardon his son? It's pretty customary for presidents to pardon a bunch at the end of their term.

3
fasheng.ing

This is nothing after pardoning his drug addict and tax evasion criminal son

-45

Sure it’s not nothing to the people pardoned.

Edit: I am also wondering if you’re consistent with the people Trump pardoned or if you’re having double standards because it’s not your party. As I wouldn’t want ANY president pardoning family members, regardless of political leaning.

14

You won’t mind if I murder you then, considering other people commit murder.

To be clear, I am not threatening to murder this person, merely trying to point out that their comment is silly.

I don’t quite understand your response but maybe my sarcasm wasn’t understood? Otherwise I’m at a loss.

Man, I thought my statement was so ridiculous that no one could take it seriously. My bad.

Literally the very first paragraph of the story. The very first.

President Joe Biden is commuting the sentences of roughly 1,500 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the coronavirus pandemic and is pardoning 39 Americans convicted of nonviolent crimes. It’s the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.

Why? Because the president has arguably unlimited power to pardon federal crimes.

You had time to write a clown ass insult but not time to read the article? If you don’t want an answer, maybe don’t ask the question next time.

54

What question? I didn't have time to read the comment.

Would you consider it overmoderation to ban that guy?

Hows the echo chamber? Dont challenge ur own beliefs. Btw why u need to announce that ur blocking me?

LOL you dumbfucks think somehow you are making the world a better place by forcing people who don't want to interact with you to interact with you? The only belief you've challenged here is that basic courtesy is a good thing.

And your challenge failed.

Plonk.
