In January of 2023 an image of a wizard with a glass ball appeared (I think on a MtG card). It was adopted into a wizardposting community and ever since it's been the go-to image for those pondering orbs.

I think someone just wanted to bring it back so they made a few new joke images based on it, and then other people jumped back on orb. I mean on board.
