I sprayed in some coolant and they didn't seem to stick any more then before, they just rock back and forth

Modulating your feed and speed helps, can find a sweet spot, cutting depth right? is this a very hard material or something.

But we would expect it to change the further in you go regardless of the wood, since it gets more and more rigid.
