Despite the controversies and the write-in campaign, the district's heavy Republican tilt, created by Wisconsin's strong Republican gerrymander, allowed Schmidt to easily prevail in the general election with 55% of the vote.

So the tape came out after he won the primary but before the election. The GOP tried to push a write in campaign for his primary opponent. Some said they'd vote for the dem candidate. But due to republican gerrymandering, the sucker still won.

njm1314reply

Nah that wasn't due to gerrymandering, or no more than any other election at least. That was due by the fact that Republican voters will vote for the the party no matter what. He could have been having a bukake party at the parking lot and they still would have voted for.

0

that wasn't due to gerrymandering,

That was due by the fact that Republican voters will vote for the the party no matter what

And gerrymandering works by the politicians choosing their voters rather than the other way around.

In this case by artificially making sure that there's enough "GOP no matter what" voters in the district to guarantee a Republican victory.

It again depends on what someone considers LGBT rights. I am gay, I oppose a business being prohibited from denying me service based on my sexuality. To a ton of people that is me opposing LGBT rights. A lot of religious (idk how many there are overall though) LGBT people oppose gay marriage. There is the whole "LGB drop the T" movement which are basically gay terfs, and probably to some extent oppose LGBT rights. There are a ton of examples because LGBT people can have any spectrum of beliefs and LGBT rights can mean anything to different people.

There's also "cunt", which (depending on your English accent mainly) can be considered perhaps more offensive than "dick".

We Finns also use "vittu" very much in the same way English uses "fuck", but "vittu" translates more or less directly to "cunt". "Fuck you" in Finnish would be "haista vittu", which translates to "sniff a cunt". But just like the English "fuck you", the actual meaning of the words isn't the meaning in the context of telling someone to bugger off.

And there, see, "bugger", latent homophobia again.

In circles we go, from homophobia to misogyny.

1
lemmy.world

Its weird, but in private conversation to mates etc we use "cunt" and "bugger" a lot. Its general banter down here, though it doesnt get said professionally, in front of kids etc. They're working class words here

1

It's really not weird, was my point. Unless you're American? In America, in an American accent, "cunt" is very hard to utilise as a term of endearment. With Aussies? Zero problem.

9

yeah, and that's what it's going to be.

We're already seeing shit that gets into that level of shit. It's only going to get worse. Politics is the prime example.

In some capacity, it'll be beneficial to society, because now you can trust nothing, you can assume nothing, and you have to take EVERYTHING at face value, otherwise you got pwned by some kid fucking around with an AI. Which given the amount of political misinformation, and just misinformation in general that we consume, and repeat to others. Would be a net positive i think.

Fascinated that people are down voting my original comment, but whatever, that's how the internet works. I like watching things burn because it forces people to give up their preconceptions, and i think that's when we're the most true to ourselves, the most authentic, genuine, and most socially functional.

Something i never really enjoyed was this weird sub behaviorism of some redditors to "reflexively downvote something because it's bad" The amount of comments i saw from people who would accidentally downvote a post calling out a rapist for example, was something else. Never thought i would see a time in my life, where people mindlessly consumed to the point where that was a genuine take that actually happened.

The only thing I can come up with about his anti LGBTQ positions is that he checked a box that says he believes businesses have the right decline to work with things that conflict with their religious beliefs and they trans girls shouldn't compete in women's sports.

Now dont get me wrong, I strongly oppose one of these (denial of service) and the other im still on the fence about. But you really have to work to make this some hypocritical positions because you had sex with a man.

I've seen nothing that indicates hes very vocal on anti LGBTQ issues, let alone, as this tweet implies, one of the loudest.

So I'll go ahead and say the tweet is false, and if not, grossly misleading.

“He who shouts the loudest” is a common phrase used to indicate someone who is acting like a hypocrite. It does not mean they are literally the loudest anti LGBTQ representative out there. He is a member of the GOP which opposes rights for the LGBTQ community. That is what makes him a hypocrite.

Nothing in this tweet is misleading. I don’t expect you to agree with that though since your comment implies you don’t support trans rights (how the fuck is someone on the fence about another human having rights) and are likely a GOP voter anyway.

Agreed. But it implies a lot more than simply "acting like a hypocrite." It implies the person is constantly or vociferously condemning something. Not just one time checking a box.

The only positions I know about him are pretty mildly "anti gay" if you can even call them that at all... additionally, it doesn't even appear to be a big issue for him because I don't see him pushing it constantly.

well some other comments pointed out that it's 2 years old so deepfake video is much less likely. But if this was from the last few weeks I'd say this goes beyond reasonable doubt. In politics there's always going to be people with motives to destroy a politician they think is harmful (which in this case he really is, of course). I think scrutiny is needed in any case. But if there's no evidence for fakery, I don't care about "reasonable doubt" either.

Forgive me for not looking for a video of a man sucking another man's dick, that's not my kink. I don't want to read articles describing the act either, with the risk of embedding a still. I'm not asking you to do anything that has anything to do with anything sexual. I am asking you to simply provide any sort of credible evidence towards your accusations of it being a deep fake. If you have knowledge of deep fakes you surely know where to find evidence to back up your claims. Or show me how you think it's something other than the rape victims say it is.

Like I'm all for proving that an innocent person is innocent. But at least have something besides just yelling random crap that it could be. "It's a fake video" with no evidence is not productive nor is it accurate. It's the blatant attempts from a party that does not understand what logical thinking means.

I get that we're supposed to dislike this guy because he's a hypocrite, but that's not what is written. What's written is "giving a blow job".

Am I just being I over-sensitive here?

-34

If an avowed homophobe turns out to be gay, they should absolutely be called out for their hypocrisy.

48

I think pointing out the hypocrisy of these people is good overall. I don't think it is saying being gay and giving blow jobs as a man is bad. It is saying someone that is opposing the rights of gay people getting caught having some sort of gay sexual acts shows how ridiculous it is to be against the rights of others to be gay.

33

It just to show the hipocrisy. Republicans oppose everything homosexual but at the sane time show that it is something some still partake in. If anything, it shows that being a republican is hiding yourself. Giving a blowjob to men is what he opposes, but what he apparently enjoys. The blowjob itself is not the subject of the post.

I think so. It's the double standards and the gross hypocrisy that make the story.

8

2

I will take the hot take devil's advocate position, and mostly agree with this. I'm not sure it really does too much to call out these clowns for their hypocrisy, other than make everyone sort of, feel better about their own preconcieved political dispositions, and dunk on a homophobe. The people who support these freaks are operating on a different sort of framework. Often it's not straight up denialism as much as it is like, some sort of idiotic conception about the fall of western culture, or about god punishing the wicked from some shit that's stupidly cited in leviticus, or paul being an asexual rapture doomer.

I think the only way that this is really like, blown, bu dum tsss, blown up into a larger issue, right, at least, for libs, rather than being like, a one-off easy dunk case, is if we maybe extrapolate that all, or a large portion, of these homophobic crusaders is also just super closeted gay dudes. I don't know whether or not that's the case, like disproportionately, right, but I think it's probably not good to sort of, operate on that assumption, or extrapolate this to be the case, based on these kinds of incidents. I dunno, guys, he could be bisexual, he could be bi. This would be typical bisexual behavior, honestly. And, is it gay to be bisexual, fellas?

In any case, I mostly hate this dude more for the fact that he's a homophobic shitbag, more than the fact that he's giving someone a blowie. The blowie is probably his best quality, I would say. You think his head game is strong, or not? Be honest now, I don't wanna hear that his political views prevent him from giving good head, if that were the case then bipolar sacred geometry crystal girlfriends would be out of business.
