Discord to start showing ads in-app this week - Dexerto
In early March 2024, Discord revealed that “sponsored quests”, or ads would be added to the platform to help “support game developers” through the popular chat app.
Discord didn’t initially share a release date, or even how they’re going to implement ads into Discord’s overall design, other than mentioning that the sponsored quests would “tastefully” be integrated.
A report from The Wall Street Journal claims that Discord’s sponsored quests will be landing on the platform this week, and will be displayed at the bottom left of the app.

Great, the app is already a hot mess. It remind me of the early internet homepages people used to make.
God what is it with every social media app sucking hot fucking garbage despite being the most popular way to access it?. Especially if the app was bearable and progressively got worse.

TL;DR: Currently a menu inside settings that gives you in-game reward redeem codes if you stream the game for a set amount of time. Someday, these will "show up tastefully in Discord".

I deleted my discord account about a year ago due to privacy concerns and I’ve been tempted to make a new one a few times but this definitely won’t push me closer.

The annoying thing about federation is that we have to convince our friends to stop putting up with it. Not an actual argument against. I just wish I could convert everyone I follow over.
Their frustration will eventually be the largest determining factor. Some may never catch on.
Never underestimate the power of frustration lol, just start subtly dropping hints after they complain about something on their preferred app and someday the straw will break the camels back.
It's easy for people to deal with BS when they're thinking it's the same BS everywhere, but once they know that there is an app that has less or no BS like that...

Hmm. They're the same? None is better. Better use something else like Revolt or Matrix. Though Revolt is more like Discord whereas Matrix lacks features.

They definitely just wrote that to make it go down easier. They aren't running ads for games out of the goodness of their hearts
