If people need Greta Thunberg to oppose climate change or genocide, they might be ghouls without a human soul. But then again, there's a lot of soulless ghouls in the world. 😔

This will certainly rile the rightwingers. They have hated Greta since she stepped into the spotlight and anything she talks about.

All they want is to destroy the planet and carry out their genocides in peace. Is that really too much to ask?

The planet will be fine. Humans on the other hand not so much. The planet is quickly becoming uninhabitable by humans. The genocides are just hurrying that process along.

I wouldn’t be so sure that “the planet” will be fine. All the species of animals and plants that we know and love will likely go extinct. Even if we do survive like the little cockroaches we are (in the best way possible) we’re never gonna see this world again. It will be dead forever. We will be alone, in a world filled with life that we never learned to love and know. Truly aliens on an alien planet.

Damn.... You make genocides sound like a good thing for the earth.

Fuck pop politics regardless of sides... It's all wack power games. Real people are real regardless of law.

2

can't wait until right wingers come out with some shit like "i thought she was about the climate" so i can slap them in their face when i explain that war is one of the biggest causes of environmental disaster

I just think it’s weird to prop up a child as a spokesperson. (When she first became popular)

No single person should be your moral barometer.

Stanning is bad.

(I also appreciate everything I've heard of Greta Thunberg saying and doing.)

Truth.

In the kind words of Immortal Technique, and I quote...;

"I'm just a man, don't follow me nigga."

I'm sure Greta says the same in other words. ...or maybe even the same words if she's around her close group of friends...

I can appreciate if you agree with many of the things that she says, but you really ought to be cautious when a child (as she was when she became popular) becomes such a media darling.

1
Jknaraareply

Because when the media becomes fixated upon a child like that, they're likely being exploited. Doubly so with the children of celebrities as Greta is.

1

Oh no a young woman famous for climate activism said something. Bust out your pitchforks, chuds.

19
lemmy.world

Anybody else a bit concerned that Greta seems to be doing the Benjamin Button thing?

11
lemmy.world

I was afraid Climate Activists would ignore Palestine because of the societal pressure from Zionist lobbies. But they have shown that they aren't about to go for double standards.

Greta is giga based.

Most people that care about the climate aren't prone to antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jewish lobbyist secret puppet masters.

Are you saying Greta is an antisemitic conspiracy theorist? Bullshit

5
lemmy.ca

I don't know about Greta, but the comment I was replying to was. Just because spreading antisemitic conspiracy theories is popular right now doesn't mean it's right. In fact it makes it so much worse.

-3

There is a zionist lobby. It's not a conspiracy and calling it out isn't antisemitic. Zionism is not all Jews. Israel was built on stolen land. Jews can live there, but they can't kick out everybody else. Get bent

5

Pro-Israeli lobbying groups aren't some, "Jewish puppet master conspiracy theory." It's called AIPEC. It's a registered 501C4 that lobbies congress on behalf of Israeli interests. It's literally what they say they do on their website. There are lobbying groups for virtually every major issue in American politics, acknowledging the existence of the pro-Israel lobby doesn't make someone antisemitic.

3
lemmy.world

I am going to demand that you clearly define "antisemitic" because I do not recognize that word any more.

3

It's discrimination or hatred of Jews, or when you criticize Israel /s

1

Who's silent on this? It's easily the biggest story on the planet right now.

A lot of people are denying that it's a genocide, despite all the obvious facts. And those people are the ones in power in many western countries.

If it was obvious why didn't the Court issue a cease and desist order like they did for Russia? Seems like they'd use the power available to them if the accusations were plainly evident wouldn't they?

-9

They wouldn't against Israel, for the same reasons they wouldn't against the U.S. if the U.S. did the same. I'm pretty sure the U.S. is violating international law ATM in regards to the border they share with Mexico, and I expect no action will be taken against them.

7

You're probably going to get a temp ban for Zionism. Lol

Outside of the internet, mainstream media is very silent on the actual goings on for the most part

I don't watch much cable news but whenever I see it on, there's coverage of this. The radio show I listen to touches on multiple facets of it daily.... seems like we live in different eco systems.

This is the beauty of not consuming any MSM: you can believe it has said or not said anything you need it to have in order to confirm your beliefs.

3

Granted i don't bother with much mainstream media myself so I guess I'm saying it in a way that of the parts of mainstream media that often bubble up their way to me, I've not really heard much recently

1

sh.itjust.works

What mainstream media are you referring to exactly?

Or perhaps you're trying to say that US media is silent on it? Because there's a lot more news organisation's than just US ones.

-1
Atomicreply
sh.itjust.works

BBC would be considered "mainstream" then, no? How have you not seen their articles?

1

BBC make online articles about everything and anything. I guess they would be considered mainstream but I was specifically thinking outside of the internet. But I'm just making excuses now so it doesn't really matter, guess I've just not seen as much as others have recently or just not realised the sources for what I have seen.

1

It's actually more like Hamas = bad Israel = worse Palestinians = victims of genocide

I wouldn't label whole ethnicities as good or bad.

7

It's funny how you ridicule the young for believing in propaganda, whilst spewing it yourself.

Jews aren't my enemies, and I'm pretty happy about that because I see what they do to families of their enemies.

Doesn't matter what faith or religious persuasion, killing children is wrong. It's not that hard of a moral compass.
