Can we settle this: how many holes does a straw have?

This classic question came up at work and became a big discussion.

I think the answer is two, but others really disagreed. What do you think?

How many holes does a ring have?

One, right?

Now, what if you stretch that ring along is axis until it's the same shape as a straw.

Did you create any new holes by doing that? No, you didn't. It's still the same single hole.
