How does it generate the CVV though?

Pretty sure that's a smart card, but does it connect to the internet? If it's offline, is it similar to the Time-based OTP algorithm? I'm curious, but I couldn't find a lot of information about it.

I do think they just have an algorithm built in. My dad had a stand alone card with a little digital screen like that he used for one time codes for work back in the 90s so I think it’s a pretty old technology
