Remastered Edition got shat on because it didn't improve enough on the original to live up to its price for people who already owned the old one. But it definitely fixed the most glaring issues of the original version and it's absolutely worth buying and playing!

I started with Dark Souls 3. Loved it.

Dark Souls 2 gets a lot of flak but I played that next. It was also great.

I am playing Dark Souls Remastered right now and it is a masterpiece. The beginning is bland and seems dumb. Once you get out into some open spaces and start fighting anything other than the initial zombies, it gets amazing. The landscapes the layouts, the boss fights, the fortresses, the... everything.
