A few notes on the interface so far

I think the “Done” button in the top right should be replaced with “Post”. I haven’t been enjoying the added friction of an additional tap to post a comment by having to hit “Done” and then “Save”. Or “Done”, “Save” and “Post” in the case of making a new post.

Also the Clan you’re currently browsing should at least auto-populate when you go to make a new post instead of making you select from a list. That’s going to get overly cumbersome real fast as more clans start being available.

Overall though kudos so far on this, it’s a very Reddit-like experience overall. Definitely a lot of areas for refinement, but the bones are here for something decent!

Since we don't have an Edit option yet (that's on our timeline) we thought it's better to have a Done button before posting directly.

Is it okay if we make this change after we implement the edit feature?

Oh, another thing I’ve noticed so far is that you don’t automatically upvote your own posts/comments. I think that would probably be a nice thing to have too.

personally, I'm not into that.

I've always felt like liking your own comments/posts seemed a bit weird. I never did like that too much on reddit, either.

But if it's added, i won't complain.

Hey @yd, you do you guys — no rush. Just weighing in as a UX professional and 12 year user of Reddit/Narwhal/Apollo.

Also looking forward to upvote count totals for comments to be visible. It’s very satisfying to see the number go up or down based on your voting on comments. :D

Thanks for the fast response too!

We had decided not to show the upvote count for replies because we wanted to prevent the snowball effect.

The snowball effect is a phenomenon where the users form their opinion and vote based on what the previous users already voted for. That's why we decided to hide the vote count, so that users are more honest about their votes.

But you make a valid point. Showing the vote count to the OC is satisfying. Adding that feature to the timeline. Great suggestion!!

What about keeping the vote count hidden until the user casts a vote?

I'd much prefer being able to see the vote count or a upvote/downvote ratio.

this! or at least letting you see the vote count of just your own comments

Read somewhere once that vote counts for Reddit comments greatly skews votes in favour of comments that already have a few votes. I kind of like knowing that the votes aren’t shown but they make a difference as far as ranking goes. That’s just me though.

2

That’s a fair point! The reason I miss it aside from the satisfying feedback that quantifies your vote’s value is probably just the gamification of it. Karma on Reddit doesn’t really mean much other than to act as a vague gauge of how old/new accounts are, but I’d be lying if I said that having a larger number than other people didn’t feel good and encourage me to want to make popular posts/comments.)

That actually makes sense for now imo
