How I tried extra hard to not get a job during placements
I had already made up my mind to decline the offer, primarily due to the low compensation package and the company's less-than-stellar reputation.
Somehow I made it through all the preliminary stages, and finally, it was time for the last interview. It seems they didn't really have high standards for selection.
However, I still participated in the interview to gain experience and to not be disqualified from the placement process for refusing the offer outright.
A typical tactic for rejection is to discuss pursuing an MBA, but that approach was ineffective in my case, leading me to the second round of interviews. Desperate for a way to appear unimpressive, I looked for poor responses to give.
During a particular part of the interview:
Interviewer: Are you familiar with our company?
Me: Yes, I read a few opinions about the company on Glassdoor.
Interviewer: Were those opinions positive or negative?
Me: Obviously negative.
An uncomfortable silence fell over the room. The interviewer eyed me, and I was certain I would be asked to leave immediately. However, he lightened the mood with a small smile and proceeded to ask more questions.
My response was genuinely unintentional; just prior to the interview, I had been discussing the company reviews with others, based on what we had read and heard from our seniors.
The situation was very awkward but ultimately I achieved my goal.
Outcome - Rejected

You must have some kind of backup for you to take a job interview so lightly...
