I assume most of the commenters either didn't watch the video or purposefully ignored its content to instead incite more hate.

I doubt it, unfortunately.

Like many other online services they've saturated the market so the only way to increase profits is to extract more money from individual users.

They are also a quasi-monopoly for a reason - hosting and streaming video is resource-intensive, so I wouldn't hold my breath for a free alternative that would scale. AFAIK, piped and such are only frontends to youtube which will be killed off by ToS or through technical means.

Maybe there are free video sites that also host their videos, but as I said, since it quickly becomes very expensive, I don't see anyone being able to do that for free for long.

Unfortunately, if anyone is going to "disrupt" youtube, it is going to come from a silicon valley startup and like youtube they will only burn investor capital for a limited time - until they have saturated the market (or failed). Then they'll have to monetize as well.

My only hope is something like a torrent approach where everyone who streams also hosts. But since that is technically difficult to perfect, needs a huge user base to succeed while not promising any commercial gain for the initiating party, nobody will throw a ton of money at the problem, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

My prediction is that people will either pay for premium or see ads in the mid- to long-term.

Ich bin gerade mit einem Iren unterwegs und wir haben uns zufällig zu dem Referendum unterhalten. Er hat sich nicht an dem Thema Frauenbild gestört, sondern daran, dass dann eine dauerhafte Beziehung als Familie gelten solle.

Er meinte dass komplett ungeklärt ist was eine "dauerhafte Beziehung" letztendlich bedeutet. Auf Rückfragen von Journalisten an Politiker, wen die Formulierung jetzt genau einschließt, kam dann wohl die lapidare Antwort dass das die Gerichte in Zukunft schon klären würden. Technisch könnte das einen Sohn der seine Mutti pflegt oder eine langjährige 2er-WG einschließen. Ist ein bisschen an den Haaren herbeigezogen, aber ist schon denkbar dass es da Graubereiche gibt.

Es klingt so als ob hier eine womöglich gut gemeinte Änderung überstürzt in die Verfassung eingebaut werden soll ohne dass geklärt ist, wen es einschließt und warum es nötig ist.

Ist jetzt alles rein anekdotisch aber halte es für denkbar dass der Spiegel hier seine Hausaufgaben nicht gemacht hat.

Das Fiese ist dass Altmieter extrem wenig zahlen und deshalb den Schnitt verfälschen. Für das Geld kriegst du aktuell nichts mehr. Das ist natürlich anekdotisch aber ich habe letztens mit einer Physiotherapeutin in Berlin gesprochen die auch Hausbesuche macht. Die fährt ihrer Aussage nach häufig zu alten Leuten in großen Wohnungen mit mehreren leerstehenden Zimmern.

Die sind häufig verwitwet und alleine, würden sich sogar gern verkleinern, aber eine kleine Wohnung mit neuem Mietvertrag kostet mehr als die alte mit den 2 leerstehenden Zimmern. Die Leute mit derartig günstigen Mietverträgen werden zwar weniger aber davon gibt es noch einige.

Ich kenne persönlich Fälle von 1500€ warm für 55m² bzw. 1150€ warm für 35m². Beide sind keine deutschen Staatsbürger und sprechen kaum Deutsch (ist klar erschwerdend bei der Wohnungssuche) aber vermute den Deutschen geht es ohne viel Glück, Vitamin B oder krasses Durchhaltevermögen meist nicht besser. Die würden sich auf jeden Fall beide riesig über 10€/m² oder auch nur 15€/m² freuen.

He talks about a responsibility of Germans due to the central role in the holocaust but also how the Islamic world has not distanced itself enough from the atrocities committed by the hamas. He even remarked that one doesn't have to agree with some of Israel's politics - even explicitly naming the settlements in the Gaza / West Bank region - but that this should not be any excuse for antisemitism.

I will say again what I said in another comment - The video is an appeal to human decency and respect. Shame on you for willfully and stubbornly ignoring that and derailing the conversation to incite further hate.

Für mich persönlich war das Framing häufig ein Problem - Bücher die im Deutschunterricht behandelt werden waren per Definition doof.

Um es zusammenzufassen - die Letzte Generation wurde vom Landgericht München nicht als kriminelle Organisation eingestuft. Stattdessen wurde hier nur eine Hürde genommen um die Ermittlungen gegen die Bildung einer kriminellen Vereinigung starten zu können.

Scrum ist gut für gute und motivierte Teams. Mit einem guten Scrummaster läuft dann wirklich alles schneller und glatter. Und langfristige Aufreibungen im Team werden vermieden weil Probleme in der Retro ehrlich und frühzeitig diskutiert werden.

Ein guter Scrummaster kann auch ein schlechtes Team motivieren und in die richtige Richtung entwickeln.

Ist aber ohne Zweifel die Ausnahme. Scrummaster wird man nur wenn man nicht programmieren kann hat mir ein früherer Scrummaster mal gesagt. Das sagte aber ein sehr sozialer und kompetenter Mensch der zwar die Technik nicht voll durchstieg aber erkannte wann Probleme entstanden und an die richtigen Leute vermitteln konnte wenn es technisch wurde.

Meistens sind Scrummaster meiner Erfahrung nach leider eher Menschen die irgendwas Soziales studiert haben und vom Versprechen von IT-Gehältern gelockt wurden. Irgendeine Zertitifzierung gemacht und schon sitzt man die 40h im goldenen Käfig bis zur Rente ab.

Das führt dazu dass in den meisten Teams ein gelangweilter Scrummaster Meetings über Meetings anlegt und täglich lustlos eine Flut von Dailies, Reviews und Retros leitet.

Das merkt natürlich auch das Team und denkt dass Scrum scheiße ist. Ist es in dem Fall sicher auch.

Ein gutes Team funktioniert hier trotzdem und optimiert am Scrummaster vorbei, sucht sich selbstständig Hilfe (ohne Dailies), spricht Probleme an (ohne Retros) und plant sinnvoll (ohne Story Points).

Ich bin insgesamt zufrieden mit Scrum - vor Allem Sprints sind ein riesiger Gewinn. Das gibt der Arbeit Struktur, Deadlines motivieren und man hat das Gefühl voranzukommen weil es am Ende Reviews vor dem Kunden gibt.

I am sure other platforms / personal hosting will continue to exist in the future. They simply won't be relevant in terms of video streaming market share.

The network effect of youtube is massive. They have a huge amount of content creators and audience. That means the audience will stick around for the creators and the creators go for the biggest audience and hence the most views.

Being google, they have data centers all over the globe, provide a fast app / browser access for any OS, can cast to a TV with one click - all these equal convenience which cannot easily be beat by any individual website.

Some huge youtube brands like linus media group are trying with floatplane as their own paid video hosting service, but I'm sure their view numbers are insignificant compared to youtube even though they are the biggest players.

What exactly are you criticizing about linux? That it got (too) successful? That it is run in its current form by Linus Torvalds at the top as a sort of benevolent dictator? That it is taking money from sponsors?

Genuinely curious, this is a first time I've seen such criticism. More often I see linux people in endless flamewars about DEs, wayland vs X, package managers or whatever they feel strongly about and I'm not interested in those.

What about security patches? What about updates to document standards? What about technological advancements such as IPv6, 10bit colors, high res displays? What about bugfixes?

Software is complex and office suites are complex by software standards.

I believe it's because firefox's UI is placed on the bottom of the screen per default. To account for that, I believe they adjust the viewport's height to either exclude the bottom of the screen (when the symbol bar is displayed) or include it (when you scroll down and the symbol bar is hidden).

Because they use a slide-out animation based on scrolling within the web page, the viewport changes a million times in height and causes elements fixed to the bottom of the viewport to jump and adjust a lot, causing weird behavior. And nobody tests for that.

All of thse are my assumptions by the way, please test for yourself, I might well be wrong.

I have mixed feelings about this.

We as the west point to Russia and China frequently, lamenting the closed-off nature of their Internet.

Now we are publicly pushing towards further fragmentation of the Internet.

I find it hard to see major differences between blocking TikTok here and China blocking Facebook over there. I assume, the process here is a little more publicly discussed whereas in Russia or China, things are quietly blocked by government agencies, but I might even be wrong about that.
