The accent? It's the Mid-Atlantic accent that a lot of old actors were trained to speak with. In more modern times, people have just started using their natural accent or an accent that better fits the character they are portraying.

It's similar to the Received Pronunciation you'd hear older British people using (eg how the Queen used to talk).

YouTube basically killed all of the original video sharing sites because it was so convenient. The cost of setting up and running such a site is astronomical.

Grew up in the UK in the 80s and 90s, and had comprehensive education on US history, including the Revolution. Also learned about the slave trade and the civil war, and then politics right up until the 20th century. May have helped that my home town had a small, but important role in early colonization.

Since Reddit started their self destruction a month ago this place has gone from a small niche to rapid expansion and being a legitimate alternative. That's why I'm here. We'll see how far this goes I guess.
