Apollo for Reddit is shutting down

This is a big reason why I'm here as of today. I just can't in good conscience support what Reddit is doing. I've been an Apollo user since it launched out of beta. I jumped at the chance to have paid Christian twice for both the original premium upgrade. And then the Ultra one later down the road. I just adore the app. When I switched to Android I still found myself missing it terribly. Since switching back to iOS. I've averaged 15-20 hours per week just using Apollo.

End of an era :(

Sync for Reddit will shut down on June 30, 2023

I would rotate between Sync and Boost when I had Android. I think both are great and are the best reddit apps I used on Android. This makes me sad for current Android users. I was happy to pay for both when I was on there. And did so.

Time to move forward. Find a new home. I don't know if I'll never go on Reddit again. But I'm done with that place mentally and won't pursue anything on there ever again.

What makes a concert great for you?

Stage presence is a big one for me. When I saw My Chemical Romance last year it was this big spectacle and just marvelous. Even though Gerard himself is not the best singer, it was just a fun time period. When I saw Slayer with Testament, Behemoth, Lamb of God, and Anthrax. It was the mood they created. The intensity was something you could literally feel from just the noise. They were really giving it their all as it was Slayer's farewell tour. But the crowd also kind of matters too.

And when concerts have disappointed me, it's usually been because the stage presence is okay at best but the audience has been terrible. There were some local hip-hop/rap festivals I would go to. And the bigger the festival got, the more belligerent the behavior got. You would have people pushing and shoving to get to the front. And since these festivals were always in the middle of summer. It was be unbearably humid. Then they switched to a venue that was all concrete and that just killed my knees entirely to be there for 5+ hours.

Yeah, it is completely different than what it used to be. There would definitely be times when a hivemind mentality would get borderline insane. The first subreddit I discovered was r/atheism. And it was nice seeing other people like me. But I remember asking honestly about a girl I was dating at the time being Lutheran and wondering if it could work. Some were supportive. But some people were vile. It was then I could see how nuts it would get.

The communities are so large it has almost gotten too big for its own good. It's made the people who run the site into total monsters. I started off lurking the site about 14 years ago. And the finally made an account 3 years after. 11 years down the drain, I remember recommending the site to people all the way back then. Especially when I started discovering a lot of the meme subreddits that I would share with friends.

Comfort games?

Trombone Champ,

The game is a bit of a challenge at first. But even if you screw up, it's so fucking hilarious. I just love it. My wife hates it when I play it. But I adore the game.

PowerWash Simulator is another one that is actually pretty relaxing for me. Some of the DLC coming looks fun too.

Totally valid, I am concerned that they will try and kill old reddit and RES. RES devs sounded unsure if they will be affected by the API changes. If a Reddit result comes up on a Google search I'm not going to not click on it just because it is a Reddit URL. But they definitely won't get a cent from me.
