Why is homebrewing so middle-class, straight, white, male?

When I was a kid, I was a girl and me and my best friend (also a girl) went to Dungeons and Dragons games hosted by a DM at a local gaming shop. We were in middle school, the other players and the DMs were all adults.

There was a guy who would regularly teasingly poke my friend in a way that was clearly inappropriate and uncomfortable. Nobody stopped him. We did go for a few more sessions but eventually stopped attending. We stayed in the hobby, but it's not a mystery why people would leave.

Not to mention the underlying currents of racism in a lot of games.

I know D&D and homebrew aren't the same thing, but D&D is the intro for a lot of people so it's very relevant.

Edit: ahh okay different homebrew.

I don't find therapy all that useful.

Third spaces are one part, but honestly the biggest part is literally not having time to spend with people outside of work.

edit: biggest part for me. my friends are mostly able to host at our own houses, and there are low cost (or free) third spaces we have found/created.

if you want a third space, you can actually make your own! kind of. reach out to libraries, local left-leaning businesses, and they might let you set up a weekly salon/hangout kind of thing. community activism!

On NYC beaches, angry birds fight drones patrolling for sharks and struggling swimmers

Y'all are making a joke out of this headline but it really sucks

But he was quick to raise a far more dire possibility: that the drones could prompt a stress response in some birds that causes them to flee the beach and abandon their eggs, as several thousand elegant terns did following a recent drone crash in San Diego.

It's honestly so horrible that this was approved. Drones are banned in National Parks for a reason. Birds have very few beach areas left where they can nest.

Messaging Site-Admins

When are you going to implement accountability for mods? I have reached out to mods/admins in the past to talk about issues w another mod. (mod FlyingSquid has said he would use his mod powers in a retaliatory manner due to disagreements, and I have seen many other people complain about them). Some mods/admins listened, another said basically to fuck off and they'd block me just for reaching out, considering me reaching out to be harassment. There is no accountability.

Just because someone has a personality disorder doesn't mean they are incapable of doing their jobs. That's an ableist assumption.

Don't take it as an insult, if you keep being ableist that would be grounds for insults, but I'm honestly just letting you know.

"Men are bad at picking up on women's hints." What are your actual thoughts on this sentiment?

I don't even think it's true that men are particularly bad at this. Everyone is.

And I don't think hinting is automatically a negative thing like so many are implying. It just depends on your preference and then ultimately comparability. Hinting is a form of flirtation. Flirtation extends the tension period of romance/sex, and can add fun and excitement. Some people prefer a direct approach.

LGBT and Marginalized Voices Are Not Welcome on Threads

lmao like Lemmy is any better. every trans related thread is filled with trans-med apologists, or straight up trans-meds. TikTok, Tumblr, honestly also YouTube... all have thriving lgbtq communities and are proprietary. I know there are def downsides and issues with data being sold, but just bc a platform isn't propriety, that does not mean it'll be less filled with bigoted people.

That does not meet my experiences of reality in the US at least, very few businesses open to walk-in customers would be closed at 5pm, and parking lots usually serve for multiple businesss or just a spot to park and then go downtown.
