I'm optimistic about the infosec/sysadmin etc communities on here growing pretty quickly, it'll still take a while for them to get to the level they were at on reddit but I feel like they'll grow faster than some of the other stuff on here

so cool getting to see this thing grow in real time

music discovery/discussion. I found so much cool music on reddit communities for bands or genres I like

resources for learning about & discussing some of my hobbies and interests like FOSS software, Linux, gaming, guitar etc

communities for people local to the city/state I live in

the app seems to be lacking quite a few features currently, I'm having a better experience using Lemmy in a web browser

I created a Grateful Dead community on lemmy.world, we've already got a few people participating and I'd love to see it grow

I just did a full wipe of my system to try out Fedora KDE, XFCE & Budgie spins (I finally got fed up with Gnome not being what I wanted anymore after like 15 years of using it as my preferred DE) and didn't really have the same experience at all - even Fedora XFCE which you say was completely broken was working fine for me. I haven't run anything other than Fedora in a long time though so I can't really speak to the out of the box experience on other distros.

I actually use archive.org for a lot of live concert recordings. bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish have been allowing/sort of encouraging fans to record and freely share their concerts for a long time and it’s all just out there to listen to and download as much as you want. there’s also the official streaming services like nugs.net and LivePhish for higher quality professionally recorded concerts, the subscription is kind of pricey but I think the artists get a better cut than on regular streaming services.

other than that I do use Spotify a bit and try to buy stuff on Bandcamp to support the artists when I can.

I rate brown/10

yeah I was, I saw the whole two nights in Philly 2021 and 22, my first Ween shows since 2007

not a mobile app but Spicetify for desktop might have an extension that does what you're looking for.

makes sense! I am still figuring out my way around all this fediverse stuff 🙃

gonna put this one on at work tomorrow morning, thanks for the rec

I've slept on 80s Dead for too long, I'll have to check that one out!

haven't had much time to actually pick any of them up the past 6 months or so, but I play guitar, bass guitar & mandolin. was working on learning In Memory of Elizabeth Reed by the Allman Brothers on guitar before life got in the way

weird, that wasn't coming up at all earlier when I was searching

so glad you made it :) great selection

this was the first album of theirs I really got into, still one of my favorites

Brent puts so much into this one, I remember hearing it for the first time and replaying the part where he goes "what'd you think, your ribcage is a jail cell mama??" over and over

definitely, the doom n gloom attitude on my city's subreddit really bugs me actually. hoping when a Lemmy community for it pops up we can avoid that. but regardless it's a great way to find out about local events or cool restaurants to try or just fun stuff that's a little more off the beaten path

dudes a total chomper too, wouldn't shut up the entire show!
