Fixing my drain required breaking laws, pissing off IRC users, breaking tools…
How many times did you think "I should hire someone" but then you remembered how expensive it would be?

While my kids live at home, regular fire due to living in HCOL. Once they are off to college, I'd love to move somewhere cheaper and live a lean fire life. In other words, I should hit my number once they leave home.

Questions about ACL Festival
They'll release the schedule around mid-August. You can buy the shirt while you're there. Also, around the time that they release the schedule, they'll also announce late night shows around Austin. Attend one with your favorite artist. It's much more intimate than ACL since you'll be in a small venue. These days, I skip ACL and only attend late night shows.

We're talking about moving in ~4 years so we'll start saving up for a down payment on top of maxing out our IRAs. Right now, the plan is to convert our current house into a rental when it's time.

Hey, so there's a circus to your left, a carnival to your right, and a mall ahead, which way do you go?
I'm in Texas so of course I'm choosing the one with an A/C. Weather aside, I'd go with the carnival.

I took a director role at a previous job because I saw a lot of issues and I wanted the power to fix them. I didn't know the pain of having to let someone go. After the second firing, I left for a contributor role and vowed to never work in management again. Worst two years of my career.

Congrats! That has to be a great feeling. We're 16 years away and I've already started looking at it as "number of employers left". I should only have to work for 4-5 more companies.

If we can have 5 months of this, I'd forgive the crazy summer we all just survived.

The Juror Who Found Herself Guilty
This story makes you feel sad, angry, and hopeful all at the same time. His freedom isn't enough; Texas needs to make the $2 million in compensation happen.

What is your favorite filament?
I switched to Atomic over 4 years ago and it's the only brand I buy now. I don't like wasting plastic and I know Atomic will print perfectly for me. If there's an issue, it was my printer's fault.

The first was mandated. It happened my first week in the office. The other one was initiated by me with a long, drawn out pip. That one was hard because we had worked together for almost two years and our families became close.

Blocking instance: only communities or communities and comments
Wondering the same thing. I blocked some foreign instances to clean up my "all" feed but those users interact with English instances and I'd love to see their comments automatically. The option to block seeing posts from a community sounds ideal.

Austin's BookPeople sues Texas over new law restricting school library books

Not to give them any ideas but it seems like the only way around this is to create a division that handles the reviewing for the state. At some point, they realize they can't keep up with the requests and so they turn to AI to review books. Then authors get creative to bypass the ai model and the state creates another silly law.
