[solved] Why is there no .gz.tar?
I’ll try to explain it in another way. First, let’s talk about “semantics”:
Usually we assume that a tarball contains multiple files, and a gz is a single file compressed.
So a .tar.gz file is a single tarball that has been compressed.
A .gz.tar is understood to be a tarball containing a single gzipped file. But if that’s indeed what the file is, it doesn’t make much sense to tar it in the first place.
Moving on to what you really want to accomplish: you can certainly create many gz files and tar them, but we wouldn’t call it a .gz.tar file since tar doesn’t care about the format of the included files. Much like a bunch of compressed PDFs aren’t named .pdf.tar
Also, I’d like to point out that neither tarballs nor gzipped files are optimized for modifying.

I do that very often. I’ve found that people’s expressions are a lot less “stiff” that way.
Edit: it’s entirely possible I started doing it after I read this comic for the first time.

Are there ANY debuggers for Linux, that has a GUI
What options have you tried that you find half-baked?
When I’m not in the mood for gdb’s CLI/TUI, I often use KDbg, Nemiver, or just good old CodeBlocks.

How to survive the Kindle apocalypse
The kindle itself is a very good piece of hardware.
And while it’s very convenient to purchase through Amazon, I’d rather spend my money on DRM-free options.

I’m intrigued.
Do you recall something in particular?
FWIW, I usually just connect to a ssh location from within Nautilus.

Funny. I actually prefer the plastic reels. I feel like the metal ball bearings (not present in the only metallic reel I ever owned) do all of the hard work for me.
Maybe it’s just what I got used to?

Monaco penalties being reviewed after shock error revealed
I’m not a Russell fan, but if the Alpine penalty is reverted… you gotta feel bad for RUS. It would mean he was penalized for not serving a penalty that he didn’t commit.
OTOH, Gasly deserves more points for his efforts.

How to survive the Kindle apocalypse

Yup. Probably the thing I’ll miss most -once they pull the plug- is sending books to my device via email.
It’s such a simple thing, yet incredibly useful. It’s not like sideloading with a USB cable is hard or anything.

Kindle EOL 5/20/2026 announcement questions
I believe that my Kindle is a 4th generation as well, but it strikes me as odd when I read your phrasing about the WiFi sync, so I’ll just expand on my use case, since I don’t use Calibre to sync.
The way I was able to sync was via email or uploading via web or using the Windows app (at work, because I don’t use Windows at home). It’s very likely that Calibre accomplishes exactly the same thing, but I don’t remember since sending via email was more convenient for me.
If it’s any help, it’s non-touch, without backlight. Two buttons on the left, two on the right, power at the bottom, and the 5-way selector on the front (lower middle).
That being said, I kept WiFi turned on throughout the EOL phase. The shutdown actually happened a couple of days later in my case.
I stopped being able to receive books via email, and the “farthest page read” stopped syncing between devices (I sometimes read a few pages from my phone). At this point I decided to turn on the airplane mode, mostly to save battery (and because I have no further use for WiFi at this point).
The device still works. And while I haven’t tried it yet (because I emailed myself a ton of books before the EOL), Amazon claims I should still be able to sideload books using USB.
I assumed that part about deregistering refers to the sort of factory reset you’re able to do. As one would do if selling it.
I never jailbroke mine, but I doubt it’s relevant at this point.
For me, it’s just as if I didn’t have WiFi.
I’m usually slow to respond, but feel free to ask if there’s something else I can add.

Yeah, but AM kinda need a team principal right now .
Anyway, I'll keep treating it as rumour for the time being, but according to BBC sports :
However, Wheatley's existing contract with Audi means it could be some time before he is able to join Aston Martin.

Strike that... apparently it's not a rumour any more:
https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/articles/ckg05py1zneo
Audi team principal Jonathan Wheatley has left the team with immediate effect.
and
He will have to serve a period of 'gardening leave' before joining another team, the length of which will have to be negotiated between himself, Audi and potentially a future employer.
