If we all cycled like the Dutch, CO2 emissions would drop by 690 million tonnes

As a Dutchie, I can only agree. I do have to say the road infrastructure in a lot of countries will have to change too to make this feasible... I have been to Edinburgh, Scotland last week and it feels completely suicidal to ride a bike there, barely any bike lanes and a very big dislike towards cyclists.

If anyone wants to know more about how we do roads in the Netherlands, I totally recommend Not Just Bikes

I do question how this statement of carbon emissions reduction holds up with the large change towards electric bikes, but electric scales better to green energy then cars I guess.

The EU forced Apple to allow users to replace their own batteries, Apple did so by making the process as troublesome for users as possible.

they're not yet forced (law didn't get into effect yet, end of 2024) and the EU has also set strict guidelines in the law that prevent apple from making their own standard much better than normal usb PD (the requirement is that if the device could charge with at least 18W, it must be possible to use a 'standard' USB PD charger at 18W). While it is a start, it's probably still gonna be a pain.

Why do instances not run ads?

Personally as a uswe I think running ads is not a bad idea, just if I would pay already (through donations for example), I prefer to have the option to show no ads.

I can imagine the current server owners either be decently supported by donations and/or see hosting a lemmy server currently more as a hobby.

AI and Coding.

While it's pretty decent at coding, it's often (in my experience) either giving you an overcomplicated way, an outdated way or just completely wrong code.

What I do really like is that when you ask for a snippet you can easely ask for variations, like: "make it a bit shorter", "add comments" or "don't/do use library X". This allows you to quickly get a few variations that allows you to come up with something of your own.

On a slightly other note, I've been impressed by github Copilot on this subject. While still often wrong, with small things it almost feels like it's reading my mind while programming.

One of the big things it makes easier is charging, no longer forgetting to charge my mp3 player, having batteries ready for my game boy and syncing my PDA.

Also (especially here in The Netherlands) having your phone with almost completely negates having to have your wallet with, since every store (including small ones, popup carts and charity collectors) has card payment available using your phone. Soon even your ID-Card is gonna be digital in an app according to some Europe rulings.

The distraction is real though, especially the addiction. But I've got no solution for that.
