Flights to Los Angeles International Airport halted due to air traffic controller shortage

Reply in thread

A few different reasons from what I’ve gathered lurking around various communities. Full disclosure: I’m not in the aviation industry, just someone with an interest.

  • Controllers are extremely professional almost to a fault. If they walk that puts more strain on an already strained system which endangers the public
  • Related to this, the public is still generally on their side or at least sympathetic to the situation. If they strike and there’s an incident, they will be blamed. the admin would love for this to happen. They’re already trying to turn public sentiment against them (see comments by the transportation secretary about starting salaries which are demonstrably false).
  • Their current union is not in favor of any work action
  • They are already being threatened with firing if they strike under the guise of sick leave
  • For most of them, this isn’t their first shutdown
  • The controllers that’ll feel the pinch first are those working at smaller, less busy facilities. One or more of these shutting down completely won’t impact much.

Again this is just my observation. Anyone with more insider knowledge feel free to correct me.

Looks like the rescue mission in Iran was cover for an operation to seize uranium that ultimately failed

Nothing the US says about the war should be taken at face value, but this is just someone speculating on a blog. And since this is the second time I’ve seen theory conspiracy today I’m going to guess it’s whats circulating online. Is it possible? Sure. “Hundreds” of special operations (as reported in actual media outlets) is a lot to send after one guy, and the mission profile is similar to what’s been described would be needed to retrieve nuclear material. But…it’s still just speculation without any new info to back it up.

At least this guy kind of acknowledges that the Iranians shouldn’t be taken at their word either. Too many terminally online folks with an anti-US/anti-west boner take anything that aligns with their bias without question.

And all the responses doubling down on the unsubstantiated claims.

What’s the source on that image showing the crash site and where the airman was recovered? Don’t think would be shared publicly unless someone leaked (wouldn’t surprise me). But in that case why wouldn’t someone blow the lid on the whole thing? If there’s one thing this clown show of an admin is bad at it’s keeping secrets.

Are you a fan of podcasts? If so, which ones would you recommend?

I mostly go for nonfiction stuff related to current events or history. Unfortunately some of these aren’t free.

Slow Burn - Each season goes deep on a particular event in recent (US) history. Quality falls off a bit after the first few seasons.

Fiasco - produced and hosted by the the guy that did the first 2 seasons of Slow Burn. Also US centric.

History on Fire - Haven’t listened to too much of this yet but was suggested the episode on Ötzi the Iceman which made me a fan. Probably the only one on here that isn’t US centric.

Throghline from NPR. Another history-ish podcast but focuses on current issues and the history behind them.

Going to check out some of these suggestions.
