Rust Coreutils cp Ended Up Breaking Ubuntu Image Builds With Latest Incompatibility

Rust-rewriting is a kind of madness. I like Rust, it's an amazing language. But why rewrite programs that existed for decades and have proven their stability and safety? Rewriting them to Rust won't make them safer, it will just introduce the kind of issues original versions have got fixed long ago.

The MIT license also is a concern. I understand that many projects use it, and we can't just reject them because of the license. But here we don't see an innovation under MIT license - we see a copy of existing GNU tools, with hilarious issues and a corporation-friendly license.

The fact uutils are being shipped despite being so raw shows that this is not about better software. The whole project is about abolishing GPL. And Rust is just an excuse.

And the quality level of uutils being already shipped tells they either make free alpha testers for the corpos of the users, or there were no competent programmers to take part in the development.

C will remain the core of the modern digital world for many years. It is impossible to rewrite everything to Rust in a couple of years. It needs a careful professional approach if we really want this to make software better. But in this case, no one does.

Does anyone use the SimpleX app?

SimpleX is an encrypted instant messaging app, it's not designed as a social network or a forum.

Large group members often suffer from unreceiving some messages, due to group encryption complexity. It's almost like the famous "unable to decrypt message" in Matrix. Maybe one can create an unencrypted group, but then it makes no sense to use SimpleX.

Why can't I find a browser.... That just acts like a browser???

Librewolf seems like a go-to choice for many people like you. Assuming you are on mobile, you can try Waterfox (but it might become bloated like FF in a few months, I dunno) or kind of an ungoogled chromium. I tried AOSmium which is another one ungoogled chromium, it is too minimal for me but might be good for you. They also claim to have some Vanadium's privacy patches (you might try building Vanadium from source btw).

How does one code by themself?

Reply in thread

It was not wrong - I literally could not remember what and in what order I had to write, although I did remember most of the general concepts introduced in the program.

The original code worked fine when I was simply rewriting it looking in the book

Why do posts continuously end up "Permanently Deleted" here?

Reply in thread

It depends on a particular community.

Communities like nostupidquestions are not expected to have posts with important news or problems one might google a year later.

Tech-focused communities, on the contrary, are expected to keep posts forever, so that important information will be accessible. However, some people delete their posts after their problem is solved. This is highely discouraged.

And Lemmy ain't just one site. Yeah.

How do I make the most out of a mediocre laptop?

All right then. I use FL Studio and a whole bunch of VST plugins, such as Waves, FabFilter, T-Racks, KiloHeartz, etc etc. Most of them have no Linux versions, and setting them all up with wine would be a pain. I theoretically would be able to do this, but I just need to make music as I used to before i took a break with it and tried Linux. I will consider staying on Linux, if you suggest a truly decent FabFilter suite alternative and a 1:1 replacement for Waves MetaFlanger.
