Why isn't there something like musicbrainz?

With streaming enshittification, I have gone back to purchasing blu-rays and dvds, ripping them, and putting them on my jellyfin server.

Why isn't there a service like musicbrainz but for video discs? This would be especially helpful for TV shows, where the order of the episodes is inconsistent on disc, and I typically have to manually go through each episode to make sure it is named correctly.

But even for movies where you have multiple versions (theatrical vs extended cut) or extras, it is a huge pain to have to go through each extracted file and figure out what it is.

How does every one else deal with this?

Self Host Personal Health Record (PHR)

I am interested in self hosting a Personal Health Record (PHR) system. I don't need my own EMR/EHR, I just want to be able to pull down my own data, host it, and navigate it.

For example, I'd like to be able to pull down my vitals/labs from my provider and look at trends over time. I'd like to be able to pull down my prescriptions to see when I went on/off different medications. I'd like to pull down doctor's notes, so I can see when I first started complaining about poor sleep, to see if it correlates to any of my medications or some other health change.

I have tried Mere Medical, and it was able to pull down my information from my provider (who uses Cerner), but the functionality is quite lacking. You basically get a timeline view, but nothing to really organize or search through notes (they are mostly just linked documents), or anyway to pull down lab results and see trends.

FastenHealth has also come up in my search, but it seems the onprem is a very stripped down, limited version of their paid product.

Is anyone familiar with anything like this? Ideally, it's be combined with a fitness tracker to pull my health data from my phone/wearables too.

Issues With Google Meet

I unfortunately need to use Google Meet for work meetings. It generally works in Firefox, but I get constant random disconnects. Sometimes, it'll only happen once in an hour long meeting, other times it'll happen every few minutes.

I have tried disabling all extensions, disabling my pihole, using a fresh profile with no additional hardening/restrictions, making sure I am signed in to Google, and so on, but cannot resolve the issue.

When using chromium, I have no issues at all (even with pihole on).

At my previous job, I wrote our webrtc product and it always worked great with firefox, so I assume this is something google meet specific.

Unfortunately, there is nothing in the developer console about why it is disconnecting and retrying.

Submitting an App for iOS approval

Hi all, I’ve been working on a music recommendation service that pairs with navidrome (think of it as a personal pandora).

I’ve also built an iOS app for it that I am trying to beta test. Even to use TestFlight, you still need to go through Apple’s approval process.

The reviewers are requiring access to a working server to test it, demo videos aren’t being accepted.

I really don’t want to have to set up an external host, as 1) authentication is a bit limited 2) you need a large music collection and I’m not comfortable opening that up on the internet.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Alternatives to Roku/AppleTV for Jellyfin Client

My jellyfin collection has finally become large enough that I have been able to cancel all my streaming services. My issue now is that I want to get rid of my Roku's that are hooked up to each TV.

Is there a good alternative? It MUST be family approved, meaning:

  1. It is not visible (no desktop/laptop hooked up)
  2. It is low power
  3. It has a simple remote control
  4. It supports Jellyfin
  5. It is relatively cheap (< $150)

I am sure I could build something out of a raspberry pi, but:

  1. I don't need another project I have to fiddle with
  2. It MUST support new codecs (h.265/AC1/aac/...) as I want direct play from my server
  3. If it stutters/buffers once, it goes into the trash!

I've generally been mostly happy with my Roku, and my pi.hole blocks most of their analytics, but last week, I pressed the home button on my Roku and it started play a video add with audio. Completely unacceptable (That has happened twice in the last week). And in general, the more of this crap I can get out of my life the better!

Offsite Backups with Slow-ish Upload?

I have about 8TB of storage that is currently only replicated through a raid array. I occasionally sync that to another USB drive and leave that in a fireproof safe (same location).

I'd really like to do an offsite backup, but I only have 10Mbps upload. We are literally talking months to do a full backup.

How do others handle situations like this?
