Is there a way to make TV shows brighter in visuals using some sort of app or something?

(Possibly a nooby question.)

I was watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and as always I instinctively went to the brightness button on my keyboard, but it was already on maximum. Why tf to they often make TV shows so damn dark nowadays?? D:

Is there please some sort of program or app for Linux Mint to make it the video a bit more brighter? I'm not exactly a tech savvy person, so I won't be able to do anything overly elaborate.

In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Is Biology Destiny? - Reactor

"In SNW, Vulcans are most often the butt of jokes, and that joke is, just about universally, look at how logical these Vulcans are! In season two’s “Charades,” Spock (already half-human) is turned fully human by a noncorporeal intelligence. This immediately makes him smelly, horny, hungry, and catastrophically emotional, things he apparently was unable to be when he was biologically part Vulcan. Later, in season three’s “Four-and-a-Half Vulcans,” four human crew members are turned into Vulcans, which makes them into science-loving assholes obsessed with facts and logic, save for one who, because she got turned into a Romulan, turns scheming and mutineering and altogether evil. There is little nuance in the show’s portrayal of Spock and his emotions, and even less in how it regards anyone with two Vulcan parents. Vulcans in SNW, to oversimplify (but not by much), are cruel, petty beings obsessed with logic and science simply because they are Vulcans."

"Bioessentialism, in brief, is the ultimate anti-liberty philosophy: a bioessentialist universe is a clockwork universe, one where every choice a person makes can be traced back to a fundamental and irrevocable feature of their DNA. A bioessentialist wants nothing from you but your cooperation in the role they’ve decided you must play in their world; God help you if you say no. It’s an ideology so self-evidently evil that it’s at the center of just about any young adult dystopian novel my fellow Millennials may have read in middle school. If you believe in human self-determination in any way, it’s a concept you must not only refuse but actively resist.

Which, of course, makes it all the stranger that it’s so present in a television show that’s been celebrated since its debut for its progressive politics."

Devil Eyes - Wikipedia

"Devil Eyes was the code name for a secret psychological warfare program in 2005–2006 by the United States Central Intelligence Agency. The program allegedly aimed to develop an action figure of Osama bin Laden and distribute it in South Asia, especially Afghanistan and Pakistan, as part of an effort to influence public opinion.[1][2]

The CIA worked in conjunction with toymaker Donald Levine, a former Hasbro executive who has been credited as the "father" of G.I. Joe toys.[3] Levine designed a 12-inch lifelike figure of bin Laden whose face was painted with a material that, when heated, would peel off to reveal a demon-like visage with red skin, green eyes, and black markings. The goal of the program was to scare children and their parents to turn public opinion against the real Osama bin Laden, or Al-Qaeda.[4][5][6]"

Star Trek Into Darkness debate - Wikipedia

From December 1, 2012, until January 31, 2013, a stylistic disagreement unfolded between editors on the English-language Wikipedia as to whether the word "into" in the title of the Wikipedia article for the 2013 film Star Trek Into Darkness should be capitalized. More than 40,000 words were written on the article's talk page (a page for editors to discuss changes to the article) before a consensus was reached to capitalize the "I".

(...)

During the dispute, cartoonist Randall Munroe wrote and drew a January 30, 2013, xkcd comic strip both honoring and making fun of the edit war, depicting an editor who resolved the edit war by rewriting the title as "StAr TrEk InTo DaRkNeSs".

looking for a fediverse/foss website for hosting some sort of guestbook

i had this idea. it's not my idea actually, but i don't know the name by which this type of action is called. i have some books that i would place somewhere outside with a label saying they are supposed to be taken home by whomever finds them, read and then placed somewhere else by the person that read it last. i though along with this i could place a tag with a link for some sort of guestbook hosted in a fediverse/foss site so that people could tell me what their opinions on each book are. do you guys have any ideas where i could host that?

ideally, the site should be:

  • somewhat easy to manage for someone that doesn't know how to code (aka me)
  • able to have multiple pages or spaces for each book
  • people should be able to post their opinions without having to sign up for anything (though i'd like it to have somewhere to post some basic info about the fediverse and hopefully get people to look it up).

i'd be grateful if you have any other ideas for my project as well! also, you are more than welcome to "steal" this idea (of course) or do something similar too :3

note: sorry abt my english

UPDATE: i made up my mind about hosting this project here :) i'll post the community link here when it's ready for anyone interested. i already made the logo:

i'm guessing i'll call it bookcycling or something like that

how do i stop images from showing like this? (noob question)

important: i'm as noob as a noob can be when it comes to linux. i have been using linux for a few months now bc i hate big tech, and i'm trying to learn gradually, but i know next to zero about coding and downloading stuff from github and stuff like that, please be considerate of that if anyone tries to answer me 🥹

i'm someone that likes downloading many memes and pics for communicating in messaging apps. however, when i try to attach a file to a conversation, my pictures are shown like this (a big list in which i have to click every picture one at a time to find the picture i want to attach), which is kind of annoying. does anybody know how to show the images in more of a gallery view?

Looking for shampoo brands

Hi! I was looking for shampoo brands from the EU. Mostly Big Name brands that since I live in Brazil and I want to be sure I can find these in the supermarket. (I could be buying from Brazilian brands also, but I feel like supporting the EU against the global Trump menace since they are more able to oppose him. Also most made-in-Brazil brands are not affordable for me). We are able to find most reasonably big brands here, we just can't find more niche ones. Any type of shampoo will do, I have very short hair and anything I use in it looks good lol

EDIT: I should have thought about this before, but I just found out L'Oréal is an affordable alternative I can find in here :)
