Should cash stay alive to enable "private" transactions?

Reply in thread

A CBDC would give the government more control over your money. They have a lot of control now, but there is at least a middle man that the government has to compel to comply. With a CBDC, the government would be able to allow/disallow any transaction. Right now, they would have to convince Paypal or Zelle to invalidate a transaction. The on/off ramps to Monero and Bitcoin are the only locations with which the government can exert their power over those currencies. While Bitcoin is not private, it can be a good tool for privacy if used correctly. Cash, however, is still the most private. So I'll just keep slipping quarters in the keyboard to pay for my online purchases.

ELI5 stablecoins

I guess I should have asked a better question. What I really want to know is how are stablecoins better than just plain ol' bitcoin? And what happens when the asset(Bitcoin?) behind the stablecoin moves up or down? How do they keep the value at $1 USD?

Is Consciousness Everywhere?

Reply in thread

So you're saying that consciousness is just how we react to our senses. If I can't sense something then I am not conscious of it and if I am not conscious of everything then a greater consciousness doesn't exist. What if, like all our senses, consciousness is gradient? Some people have super taste, some people wear glasses. Maybe, some people have a more powerful sense that can perceive things most of us can't, like thoughts or intentions from other things.
