Don’t get complacent. That was the word about Trump until he won in ‘16.

Not to defend No Child Left Behind but it was only a 2002 law, the majority of these people are too old to have been in school since its passage.

NEW: Update & Clarification on Votes, Boosts, Favorites, and Reputation Points on kbin
I almost wish reputation and things of that nature weren’t publicly visible. A huge part of Reddit that I hated, the circlejerk-y opinions and same tired lame jokes being told over and over again, were caused in large part by people seeking karma (and that’s not even addressing the actual posts, just the stuff in the comments). I would hate to see that eventually start to come back.
There’s obviously some downside to that and it probably warrants a more nuanced solution if anything.

What’s your source for this? It routinely gets over 100 here and buildings aren’t 80 degrees inside.

Like the lawyers recently finding out it would just make up caselaw and reference cases. We’re going to see that happen more and more as resources are cut back.
It’s been notorious for doing that from the very beginning though

I have to wonder who the hell can really be considered an “independent voter” at this point..? Like who honestly hasn’t made up their mind one way or another by now?

It was repealed & replaced in 2015 anyway so it was only in effect for 13 years and over half of states had waivers for it by then anyway. Once again not defending the state of public education or laws passed affecting it, just making sure we all know the facts.

Can a rich person be a good person?
I don’t really look at it as how much money someone has, but rather how their money was earned. Just like in your example, if someone earns a lot of money because they have an in-demand skill like being a doctor, that’s awesome. You’re making money off your own labor and you’re adding value to the world.
If you make your money off of something like being a landlord, I’m going to respect that less because you aren’t really adding anything to the world, that property would exist without you renting it out and it’s only making you money because you had enough money (usually) to obtain it in the first place.
There’s room for nuance, of course, and you can be poor and still have gotten what you have via unethical means. All this is a generalization. Ultimately people deserve to be judged on an individual basis.
