What in the actual good god happened to Elon Musk?

Reply in thread

Yeah, he was always that bad. There is a an excellent example in Eric Berger’s book about SpaceX early days(Lift off). I don’t remember the exact details, but there is a critical failure with one of the rockets, and Elon blames it on one of the best engineers. Later is found out it was not his fault, but Elon never apologised which just leaves vibes in the company.

And overall feel of reading the book that Elon treats everyone kinda bad, it is just not directly stated.

Annoying

Reply in thread

unfortunately it sounds like this in the cinema too. Dialogue is barely understandable and 80% of the scenes are so dark, it looks like shot with an iPhone under moon light.

Just compare with any movie from the 80’s or early 90’s.

I personally reached a point where don’t even bother to pirate those movies anymore.

What is your favorite open source software?

Reply in thread

it is a development machine with highly specialised tools - Altium Designer, SolidWorks, IDA Pro, Altera Quartus, etc.

Upgrading the OS is not a trivial thing as would be on a phone or tablet. Also when upgrading the OS it would make sense to upgrade the HW as well, and that is a major investment. And Signal is just not important really to warrant that.

I would still use it on my phone though, but on the PC is just Viber unfortunately (whatsapp dropped as well).

How To Torrent Software Safely (For Dummies)

Reply in thread

sorry, to hear that happened to you! I have paid VPN and use it to isolate devices on my network that i don’t trust (not torrenting).

I would never trust 100% a vpn running on the same machine as the app that needs the connection.

Probably super paranoid, but always use one of those VPN boxes with separate ethernet sockets - for input and out connection. Quite cheap on Amazon. I assume they run Linux and when they loose the VPN just crap out instead of exposing my home network.

TikTok is the most popular news source for 12 to 15-year-olds, says Ofcom

Reply in thread

yes, same. I am way north of being teenager, but after reddit crapped out, my social media usage is like 80% tiktok and the rest lemmy.

Also have lost any trust i had left in the BBC, with their targeted hate campaigns against minorities and constant right wing grift. So i rather follow few serious creators on TikTok than any professional journalist from the mainstream British press.
