In fact you could do one better - it doesn't need to make a profit, just break even, so you could either have lower prices, helping the community save money, or higher wages, helping the community spend money. But since it helps most people instead of a few people, it's bad according to capitalism.

Yeah, I should probably donate again or something

Seeious question - since Wikipedia doesn't serve ads, wouldn't a drop in direct traffic be a good thing for them? It would reduce their server costs and presumably the people who truly value Wikipedia (contributors and donors) would still use it for its intended purpose.

Ignoring the population as a whole getting dumber, which seems to be a side effect of everything these days.

To be fair, this is not actually a graph of outages - it's a graph of the number of users reporting outages. What's more likely happening is that the service itself is working fine, but there is an outsized number of people having problems reaching the service, due to any number of unrelated factors (network congestion, individual device issues, temporary ISP outages or other internet hiccups)

This could happen to any service if the number of people trying to access it multiplies. If 1% of the time someone tries to access a service, there is an issue (even temporary), and the number of people trying to access that service goes from 1000 people (10 issues) to 10,000 people (100 issues) then it looks like there is a huge jump in problems accessing a service, when really the service is working just as well as it was before.

Idk if you're just being a jerk or what but I'm gonna assume you're being serious - the expectation might be the person trying to be responsible would say "that's a stupid excuse" but instead they sit down and join the gaming person to stay warm. The joke is basically that the person chooses comfort over responsibility.

Great post, with one caveat

the closest thing to a definition we have for "vegetable" botanically is "literally all plant life and maybe also some fungi,"

I got my degree in Ecology and Evolution, and we always used a similar working definition but it was "edible parts of a plant which are not fruit." So basically botanically, stems, roots, leaves, flowers, and all subvarieties of those are vegetables. Fruits are fruits. Fungi are fungi.

It's called a false dichotomy, actually. Basically pretending there are only two sides to an argument (capitalism good, capitalism bad) when there is more nuance. Capitalism good, but... capitalism bad, but... this isn't capitalism... etc.
