What can you do on Linux that you can't do on Windows?
Reply in thread
I think they are using this: https://github.com/microsoft/terminal
It’s what I use on my Windows machines as well. It’s a huge improvement from the old CMD window.

“Dumb phones” offer an escape from the endless scroll
I recently discovered an alternative to these minimalist phones. On the iPhone I am able to setup “Focus” modes. You can tune which applications give notifications while in the focus mode. So when I’m in my work focus mode I block out notifications for all apps except Outlook and Teams. Then you can also adjust the focus mode to change your Lock Screen widgets and Home Screen layout. So you can prioritize the items you want to see.
Then additionally I setup screen time limits on social media sites like Instagram. I set a 30 min limit per day. Then if I want to bypass that limit I need to make a decision to do it.
I feel like these tools have let me wrestle back control of my device usage. Now I can’t get sucked into hours long Instagram scrolling sessions.

New Decky plugin lets you enable/disable individual BT devices waking your OLED Steam Deck
Has it always been possible to remote wake the Steam Deck? Or is this a feature exclusive to the OLED model?
I have an LCD model and would love to be able to wake it while it’s in the dock hooked up to my TV.

Proxmox running TrueNAS and NextCloud or Nextcloud on TrueNAS via Docker?
I’ve been running TrueNAS core for years. I used to have my applications in Jails on TrueNAS. If you just want to start out learning I think using SCALE and keeping your apps within TrueNAS is a good way to go.
I believe SCALE uses docker for its apps so that should make it easy to migrate your data in the future if you pick another platform.

If you go with QNAP be careful with what you provide access to over the internet. QNAP seems to have security vulnerabilities quite often. It would probable best to only use a VPN to access any services/media on it.

New to selfhosting
I learned about this book written by Adam who founded the SeaGL conference.
I’ve been self hosting for years and bought it to support him. I like the style of writing and how he explains the concepts.

New Unraid OS License Pricing, Timeline, and FAQs
Reply in thread
I do see an advantage to tie it to a time period for the customer. If it was just tied to a major version then Unraid would have to make a decision about if a feature belongs in version 8 or version 9. Essentially locking that feature behind a paid upgrade. By making the upgrade tied to a time period they have no incentive to hold features back for the next major version.

catch-all addresses just work with correct from address when replying
What do you mean by this? I’d like to be able to reply from a [email protected] automatically.
For me Thunderbird makes me create an alias in order to reply to my catch all (*@mydomain.com). Did you have to configure something specifically?
