I mean, it's either American (OpenAI, Google, Anthropic) Billionaires or Chinese (Alibaba, Z. AI) Billionaires making the models.

And even if you find a model not built by the billionaire class, you still require datacenters to train the models.

And even then, the data required to build these models must take from millions of artists/writers/etc.

I'm not saying you have to hate AI, but saying you can run a model locally doesn't change who created it and how they created it.

The title states "computer scientist says" AI is concious. The quotes in the article don't support that.

That line leaves a lot of ambiguity over what he really believes as its not a direct quote and instead seems to be conjecture by the author. However, based on that line he's not taking a stance on their conciousness, as it's a conditional statement.

Honestly, the "article" is taking a lot of liberty with its quotes.

If you look at the core section:

I would worry they bugged my home if I was her. I'm not sure the move is over intimidation, but lack of trust/security in the current place.

I feel like it probably breaks one of your rules, but an ironman or gundam suit would be great. For the ironman angle I guess you could just say the repulsors since that gives you flight while still being offensive.

I mean, the assault on her citizenship is an intimidation tactic, I'm just saying her moving isn't necessarily her giving into the intimidation. It doesn't sound like shes backing down from the fight in any meaningful way, so moving seems more about control than anything else.

I mean, nailgun has "gun" in it, but we don't consider those weapons. Sure they could be used that way, but so can most industrial tools/equipment.

I'm really impressed by the grader's response. They didn't just fail her for not doing the assignment, but broke down why and how her rhetoric is flawed. The fact the school couldn't stand behind this clear and concise feedback just means that Oklahoma doesn't really care about the quality of the work done at their school.

Pretty sure that's most oven/stove top timers as many intermediate steps in baking/cooking require set time intervals, meaning rarely do you want things to turn off when a timer ends.

Like whenever this admin comes out with this kind of rhetoric, it usually means the accusation is true.

It's great seeing time and time again that no one really does understand these models and that their preconceived notions of what biases exist ends up shooting them in the foot. It truly shows that they don't really understand how systematically problematic the underlying datasets are and the repurcussions of relying on them too heavily.

That's an issue you can run into with many classics. Either they did something so well it's become a trope, or the artistry in it has been refined so much that the original feels like a poor imitation.

A great example in film is Citizen Cane. It used a lot of ground breaking approaches for cinematography and sound design, but those things aren't ground breaking anymore, so watching it now doesn't have the same "excitement". A more modern example might be Toy Story; the animation doesn't look too impressive by modern standards, but was ground breaking at the time.

I mean that's kinda the whole point.

Companies are looking at AI to replace people. Either it's ready or it's not.

If you need to treat it like it's an intern, then it's not worth the expense. Anyone hiring interns to be productive doesn't understand why you hire an intern.

I'm pretty sure the idea is two fold. First, being a politician wasn't supposed to be a full time job. The second is that politicians need to spend time in their home state to hear from constituents and be a part of their state (travel which used to take days/weeks for travel).
