Leaked Email Shows Elon Musk Demanding "Sub 10 Micron Accuracy” Cybertruck Parts
It's just marketing. Elon wants dumb tesla bros to think their truck is built to that accuracy. No need for it to be reality.

Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?
It's fine for news, tech and memes but none of the niche subs that I loved are here. I really miss the sub for my city.

Dollar stores are shutting down across America. They did this to themselves
Reply in thread
If you don't have 99 cent only stores in your area, you may not realize their stores are about 50% food and many people buy just essentials there. We also have dollar tree, which is mainly cheap crap. We just got a five below, now that store is entirely unneeded junk.

Just over half of Americans over the age of 65 are earning under $30,000 a year, and it shows how stark the retirement crisis is
All these comments blaming poor boomers for having to work part-time minimum wage jobs shows that capitalistism's propaganda continues to work by getting us to believe there is a generational war when we're really in a class war. Most of us here will be in the same boat, unable to stop working in our elderly years and unable to get a job with a real wage.

How many Lemmy users are non-technical background?
Legal field for me, but I'll be honest. I was planning on quitting Reddit cold turkey and doing something else with my free time but my software project manager husband kept talking about Lemmy, so here I am.

One floor of my office building is a very well known gaming company. They've been remote since I started my job in 2021, but they have started coming into the office recently. I'd say 75% of the people I've seen get off at that floor have appeared to me to be LGBT+.

The map would be tough. If someone showed me the map and said, go to the kitchen, I would try remember, turn left then right then its around to the left. I would remember it in words, not visually.
Brown and pink dog...in my mind I see a hazy face of a poodle with fluffy pink ears. I can't see the full dog. I can't walk around the image and explore it more. Its just a hazy partial visual that flashes in my mind for a moment.

Extreme wealth has a deadening effect on the super-rich – and that threatens us all

So true. My boss makes about a million a year and gets whiny whenever we deal with clients that make more than him. He has plenty of money but that will never buy the parental love that he didn't get as a child.

Supreme Court makes it easier to sue for job discrimination over forced transfers
Reply in thread
This is a discrimination case, which currently only applies to protected classes, such as race, religion, age, etc. But age discrimination can begin at 40 years old, so it's a class that everyone eventually gets to be a part of...if they are lucky enough to live that long.

Average US vehicle age hits record 12.6 years as vehicle life expectancy continues to improve!*
This year my car turns 14 (Kia) and my husband's turns 22 (Acura). We consider ourselves to be "car people" and we probably would have replaced them sooner but the type of vehicles that we like are not very popular (sporty coupes and small lightweight trucks). We've been lucky and had to do very minimal maintenance so far.

Anyone else gradually stopped drinking alcohol?
My body stopped responding to alcohol like it once did. I was never a big drinker but through my 30s, I've slowly stopped feeling any sort of buzz and instead get anxiety and insomnia. I'm also having a harder time handling cannabis, a little bit can send my heart rate through the roof. I'm sure I've got some health issue contributing to these changes but haven't figured it out yet.

I started taking a medication recently that has "enlarged spleen" as a side effect. Okay doc, I'll keep an eye on my spleen.

Second Life Concept: How Used Taycan Batteries Became An Energy Storage System for the Leipzig Plant
The Taycan has only been around a few years. Are these batteries that have been replaced or were the original cars tossed? I'm glad the batteries are getting additional use, I'm just afraid of how much other waste is being created. I know my boss leases a new Porsche every 3 years and it breaks my heart to think they aren't getting resold and are getting destroyed.

Warming temperatures could make 70% of the world's wine-growing regions unsuitable to produce grapes: Scientists
Reply in thread
In theory yes, you could air root and transfer a plant but it's harder in practice and the grapes may not be the same if the soil type and water type are drastically different in the new location.
