What to do with surplus solar power in an island solution?

What happens if the sun shines onto your solar panels, and you have too much power. I guess you could cover the panels with a blanket in such a case, but that would be manual intervention ....

Do you need to consume all electric power you generate? Ways of wasting power include ... heating water or electrostatics.

Most people would put surplus power they produce into the grid, but this is connected to government / cooperate regulations and paperwork, some would like to avoid that.

An island solution with solar panels is not connected to the power grid at all...

Ethernet cable through your garden?

Has anyone here expanded internet connectivity to their garden with an ethernet cable? I am speaking about non-wireless communications. To some hut some 100 meters away? What are your experiences with it? Is it as simple as digging a cable trench, putting the cable in (maybe with some pipe to protect it) and covering it?

Are fibre optics a viable long-range alternative to copper ethernet cables for local area networks?

Luanti Game / mod: Lazarr!

Your goal is to loot all treasures of the known world. To win a level, you must find all gold blocks in it.

You can walk around the level freely and take, place and rotate blocks. Mirrors, bombs, color mixers, skulls and many other special blocks assist (or hinder) you in your task. Use your wits to activate detectors, pull levers, ignite bombs and barricades to eventually break all the locks and take all the gold.

How concerned are you of watermarks in videos or images you share?

cross-posted from: https://lemy.lol/post/58212892

I think it is possible to embed invisible information into videos and images. This way peopple could track where you got an image from, the source from which you copied it, and people who copy your image to share it again. https://github.com/ShieldMnt/invisible-watermark

Services like youtube or twitter could embed such watermarks into content they serve to specific users without them knowing; Smartphone-cameras could mark images in secret.

I guess blurring, rotating or dithering the image could destroy watermarks. Or maybe just sharing a screenshot of an image instead of the original image. Format conversions may help too.
