Duolingo is dying celebratory thread
I can't comment on its effectiveness, but I've enjoyed listening to free Language Transfer lessons. The idea being that there's probably words you already mostly know because of shared language history.

A few more of the ship models I've made in the last little while 🖖
Really cool! Did you build any of these from a tutorial that you could recommend?

Best Mastodon App?
It's a PWA and not a native app, but I've found Phanpy to be the best.

What Star Trek media did you watch in the last week? - 12/31/25
Caught up with SNW and watched the season 3 finale last night. The plot was a bit rushed, but I found it surprisingly moving.

January 10, 2025: The Stargate Writers' Room Approacheth! - Joseph Mallozzi's Weblog
Super hard to believe it's been almost 15 years since the SGU finale. I'm hopeful this new series will be good.

Rules-light TTRPG for 8-12 players (including GM)
Cairn is rules light fantasy rpg with the rules being entirely free: https://cairnrpg.com/
Basically you manage your inventory and have to role under 3 stats. You can use the 2e edition that has a bit of a setting baked into the backgrounds, or use the Barebones edition that just strips out any implied setting. Lots of adventures available, and lots of conversion guides, plus you can pretty much run any OSR/BX module with minor tweaking.
It is in the OSR camp, so your group would have to be ok with some lethality and just rolling up a new character if they die.

Shadowdark RPG - Opinions?
I played my first session tonight (level 5 one shot) and it was pretty fun. I wish it had a more open license so that there would be a public SRD, but that's a minor complaint.

Neocities founder stuck in chatbot hell after Bing blocked 1.5 million sites

There's a UK search engine called Mojeek that has its own index. I won't claim it's results are as good as Google/Bing/Kagi etc but if you want to use an alternative it exists. I typically start all my searches there and then transition to DDG if I can't find what I'm looking for.

[Experiment] Looking for early feedback on the upcoming update to Explore/Communities screen
I was going to complain about needing to horizontally scroll to see the full list, but the Show More button fully solves that issue. Great update.
