2023 Canadian Grand Prix Closing Thread

I enjoyed the race. Being honest Max was on his own race as usual, but not that far.

The fight ALO-HAM was very intense, many many laps doing qualy laps each other and putting pressure on the rival. ALO managed the gap brilliantly IMO given the circumstances (lift&coast)

Ferrari's dice was right in this race πŸ˜„ Very good and consistent race pace, just marginally slower than podium cars on a diferent strategy. Kudos to them.

Albon: Driver of the Day on merit.

Plenty of action in the race despite the DRS trains

Ferrari failing their drivers again this weekend.

yes, poor management from strategy/pit wall people. Again.

It's beyond my understanding how a team like this can make basic errors. It should be a given that you cover the basics of car racing procedures as is communication with your drivers and being sure drivers and pitwall are reading the same page of the manual.

All said, I can not agree with how Charles over reacts as if he was fighting for WDC. Of course, several years in his contract with Ferrari and it might be that he sees no progress in the team.

They fired head strategist for this year but are making the same errors.

Running expenditures (races Vs shoes Vs gear Vs tech)

thank you! I never took the time to recall how much I spend on running

my budget:

  • 0$ on t-shirts (plenty of them of all kind after many years of running)
  • 100$ every three/four years for a good lightweight windshield (winter time). Over the years I have acumulated couple of gloves, beanie, etc. that actually long for ever
  • about 20$ running shorts every other year, as they wear out I'm going rotating them. Mild weather here, some I don't need expensive gear to run in the winter. In the summer it is much more cheaper XD
  • my latest "wrist computer" is a 450$ from 3 years ago. I think I will use it untill it breaks down in pieces or battery dies, as it covers much more that I actually need. One of my best purchases
  • shoes... as a barefoot runner .... :D I also have some "minimal" shoes for trail, road, couple of running sandals, but I guess in the next year I will need a new pair for trailrunning (<150$) This kind of shoe does not lose any quality untill they break so usually I use them well beyond 1000km.
  • races... all costs considered ... about 200$ per year? Yes, might be that. This year is well below that figure, but it's an average stimation.

I don't have a limited budget per se, as I don't travel to far away races that would increase the costs, but I'm defenitly not in the spending wheel or motivated for the latest gadget, trend, etc.

What training plan do you use?

None.

I have followed some in the past, and I've had enough 🀚 They all almost understimate how much time we need to recover (life happens y'know). Too much high intensity training even to longer distances.

I have never hired a trainer, maybe I should consider in the future if a need to set a goal time or whatever. If I could afford it.

Barefoot Shoe Suggestion for XX-Wide Feet?

Hi!

I run using running sandals, is the best option almost all year around. Even when it's cold you can use socks, but when it's warm is nice to feel your feet free :)

xero shoes could be a starting point to learn about this topic

I've shared your question here ![email protected]

Altra has some wider shoes with soft and flexible upper zone. Sorry I can tell you models.

Live discussions about cycling races

I usually watch races at night (like nokere koerse today) so try to avoid reading 😬 . But it's always nice to talk about races (women & men) and debate about procycling topics

so I encourage people talking here but use CW when talking specifics of race RESULTS πŸ˜„

Weekly Running Thread - 4 Nov

weather sucks πŸ˜† In a couple of hours I 'm going to a local small race (44th edition tho!!) and it's raining a lot.

This week the most noticiable feat is that I managed to be consistent with my plank challenge, so I comfortably established over 2'. A couple of long (2h.) walks and two easy run sessions. Now race day!

Even on weeks like this I'm greatful I can run, enjoy running with others.

long dark weeks to come 😝

Long term RHR in an ex athlete

I can not tell, as I have not stopped from exercising XD

How long has passed since you are not training at that level? Have you totally stopped doing any endurance sport?

what you are doing now may be enough to keep that low HR levels, even without the intensity/volume required for your previous level and may be you have moved from (ie) 41 to 43, an actual increase, but not significantive.

Just an opinion.

for sure, not merino ortovox-whatever (is this spam? excuse me if it is not)

you don't want to absorb sweat, you want sweat to pass through your shirt and evaporate. Cheap light synthetic fibers do the job.
