2023 British Grand Prix Qualifying

Making this early as I doubt I'll be able to watch live this weekend. I need to take the little one to a kids birthday party 😬.

Anyway, post away your thoughts from the qualifying session in the future!

Sargeant is looking 50/50 if he makes Q3. Albon is looking pretty certain though.

Was there a big upgrade to their package or is it just a good track for them?

Are you a visionary or on an insane amount of hopium?

Who would replace him? Yuki?

I know a lot of people are wishing for DR, but...is that really realistic?

If Williams can find some money and keep developing the car it makes sense to stay. But if the money is not there then it makes sense to jump.

2

From the Beyond the Grid pod with James Vowles he was saying the team has significant funding behind it. Issue is the money is being spent on the facilities and being the processes and systems up to date.

I’m hoping Albon can stay. He fits the team nicely I think.

2

I didn't even consider him coming back just because he's no longer an RB guy at all.

But yeah, OK, I'd be down with Albon in the second RB seat.

1

I'm hoping for them to bump Yuki to Checos seat next season. I doubt they'll do anything mid season, and as much as I'd love to see Danny Ric back in the Red Bull seat I think that ship has sailed.

Yuki in the Red Bull 2024 though? And hell then throw Danny Ric in the AT.

A man can dream.

There has to be someone lobbying hard for Danny Ric to replace Checo, especially after 5(!!!) missed Q3s. That's extremely embarrassing for someone in the fastest car.

10

Sure, but when other teams start to catch up, having no wingman will start to hurt strategy.

My heart skipped a beat there when Lando was first. Excellent result either way and such a difference from the start of the year for McLaren

10

I literally gasped out loud and yelled out "OMG!" when that happened, not realizing Lando was one of the first over the line. But then the motorsports gods (aka Max himself) made sure RB got that P1.

I loved Lando's cheeky, "Max ruins for everything for everyone," in response to the interviewer mentioning Lando almost getting P1. I don't understand how people don't like Lando; I think he's hilarious. Obviously him and Max are good friends, too.

Excellent day for McLaren!

5

I don't wish harm on Max, but if he could bin it tomorrow and McLaren finish 1/2 I would be so happy.

9

Yo. I actually screamed when Lando crossed that line in Q3 and Piastri too. Super happy for Albon as well!

9

Everyone when there was briefly a Williams 1-2:

Stop the count!

8

Perez out in Q1 again. Yikes.

Also what's up with the Alfa's just shutting off randomly? Isn't this the third race in a row it has happened?

6

God damn has the McLaren improved. Also piastri proving a massive upgrade on ricciardo already.

Looks like the McLaren upgrades might be the real deal, at least in these conditions. Still a way off Red Bull, but great to see some progress.

Disappointed with Alonso. Looks like other teams have caught up and overtaken their early season advantage, which is a shame. Losing out to, an admittedly racey looking, Williams won't go down well.

Hoping for some changeable conditions tomorrow.

5

Let's hope they're the real deal! I'm almost scared to watch the race now in case they both go backwards through the field and the 'normal order' is restored.

2

Yeah I thought he'd have a better qualifying after his FP3.

1

I wouldn't be surprised if Aston have already turned their eyes to next season since its always been their stated goal to challenge for wins in 2024. Their competitiveness this season was sort of unexpected

1

Damn what an ending of Q1. Times just came tumbling down. Happy to see Williams through, the dream lives on

Wasn't he still at the pit exit because he went out in the exact moment the pit exit closed because of the red flag?

Perez super lucky there. Guessing he’ll at least make it through to Q2 now

Damn, I thought he was attmepting another Checo DOTD classic

1

McLaren should design a new livery for every track. That's the secret sauce that's really powering the car.

Tabs so they can grab the tear-offs?

I saw them on the audience members. They were long and dangly.

1

I thought you meant the drivers 😆

In the crowd they're lanyards attached to radios that clip on to your ear to listen to the commentary.

4

Sainz sounds like he's completely done with Ferrari. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Red Bull signed him to replace Perez. He was an RB junior after all.

2

And be Verstappen's second fiddle? I don't think he would enjoy it

1

What a performance by Lando and Piastri! Really hope McLaren continues down this path.

2

My prediction for top 3 in quali:

If Perez makes Q3:

  1. VER
  2. [One of the Ferraris]
  3. PER

If he doesn't:

  1. VER
  2. [One of the Ferraris]
  3. ALO
1

It's going to be fun. Half of the cars on inters and half on softs.

1

ALB is kicking ass in that Williams. And PER down in the dumps again. Seat exchange incoming?

1

Idk. Checo is still 2nd in the WDC. If Checo was somewhere around like 10th in the WDC, I could possibly see it. Alonso in 3rd isn't far behind Perez, but AM seems to be in a slump of sorts at the moment. And Perez still managed a great result last week.

Even in the Constructors, RB is in no danger. RB has over double the points than 2nd place Mercedes.

Not sure if it's worth RB rocking the boat at the moment.

Does Piastri have the Mclaren upgrades? When does Sargeant get his Williams upgrades?

1

I believe both Piastri and Sargeant have the upgrades.
