They always do. Because liberals still navigate the world believing in the objective reality of morality. They think there is real true evil and real true good and that while the US may not be real true good (like them and their family are) at least they can all agree that Russia and China and Iran are real true evil.

Basically, liberals have that scene from Team America playing in their heads on loop during all political thinking sessions: "Yes, dicks fuck pussies. But sometimes dicks fuck assholes." And they nod to themselves as they pat themselves on the back for understanding that despite the humor, the movie is absolutely right.

When Family becomes the Enemy

Stop viewing the world in terms of good and evil. Being a landlord isn't evil, nor is it good, it is a deterministic emergent property of capitalism.

Remember, Fidel was born into money. Mao was born into money. There's no morality. Only interests. Betray your interests for the revolution. Do not betray the revolution for your interests.

I am very interested in learning about changes in imperial core production. I have been feeling for some time now that the Ukraine conflict in part is an excuse to ramp up arms production for a conflict with China and I don't know where to get analysis of imperial arms production trends.

The war has already begun

This is the exact same behavior of the British that has been going on since before the first Opium War. Merchant class owns papers, they want China to give up all their wealth, they write articles in the paper to incense the state and push for a war of domination.

The more things change, the more they remain the same

How can we be sure that China isn't "turning imperialist"?

We can't be sure. We can only observe and analyze. Here's the most important thing to understand:

Imperialism doesn't work as a model for sustainable society. Capitalism doesn't work as model for sustainable society. When the zeitgeist of a community is one of fear and ignorance, these understandings don't matter. They will build whatever it takes to survive.

But China isn't that community. The contemporary Chinese political zeitgeist emerged after Marx's thorough analysis of sustainable society and demonstration of universal benefit of communism as a social arrangement. China is heavily influenced by Marx and Marxism, by diamat and historical materialism. They teach it to their children, they engage with it at all levels of production and social organizing. The Chinese zeitgeist is fully aware that imperialism means death for China, just as much as they are aware that imperialism means death for the North Atlantic.

Is it possible, even given the above, that China will lose its way and build imperialism? Absolutely! So we must remain vigilant. But China also watched it happen in the USSR. And the USSR was unprepared for the dynamics of reaction. China watched this happen and the zeitgeist incorporates the risk of social destruction into it's workings. More than that, not only did the USSR lose itself, the Soviet leaders who caused it did not benefit consistently or durably enough for most leaders in the world to believe that the USSR revisionist model would benefit them personally. They understand that going that route means death and terror.

It's still possible. But it's not going to be a roll of the dice. It's going to come from a material analysis that shows a path to durable victory for the Chinese bourgeoisie. So far, no one really has that analysis. The Chinese bourgeoisie would need to ally with the North Atlantic to pull it off, and the North Atlantic showed everyone what they do to former socialist projects: shock therapy, bombings, assassination, wealth extraction.

I don't see a path to durable victory for the Chinese bourgeoisie. Even if China went full imperilaist capitalist they would still be in mortal competition with the North Atlantic, but they would now also have fatal internal contradictions that every member of society grows up learning about and is socially reinforced and to which there does not appear to be a solution other than death.

So, critical support is what we are called upon to deliver, and hope is what buttresses our optimism, and historical materialism is what undergirds our hope. Remain critical, but remain optimistic.

Come on Taiwan, fight a proxy war for America! All the cool kids are doing it!

What the actual fuck. Ukraine is a model? Are you serious? I thought Russia was the aggressor here. And that the atrocities are mounting. A model for how to destroy the lives of millions for decades to come?

And then training a child to use a high powered rifle as part of the model? Jesus Christ this is incredibly difficult to parse as a blunder. It looks like deliberate socialization of proxy war with open anticipation of complete devastation of the proxy.

North America is not a lost cause

I don't think you understand the critique. The problem is all of the single-story and two-story construction. There's no way to fix that quickly. It took a century to build it all. It's going to take twice as long to migrate all of that low density into higher density construction and decrease the mileage required to live normal lives. Right now, the average suburbanite has to travel an insane number of total miles to do the basics of what they need to do for their families - food, healthcare, schooling, shelter, clothing, socializing, multi-generational relationships, work.

It's not like local governments can build light rail or even busses to even 50% of the necessary things. Plus they'd have to change zoning codes against all the NIMBY pushback, plus it would take decades to consolidate those activities into higher density buildings.

No, the USA is fucked and it's going to remain fucked for a long time.

Listen, I think they need to protect themselves from Joe Biden as much as you do, but waiting until Joe rings the bell isn't going to work. Ukraine needs to give up on the West ever doing anything in their interest and negotiate a cease-fire directly with Russia.

Why against multipolarity

I think r/communism position is that the current available alternatives to US power, that is China and Russia, and their largest allies (Brazil, Iran, India, etc) all fail the "is it communism" test and therefore should not gain in power. You'll have to ask them though.
