the myth of military intelligence and media literacy

I went to an airshow a few years ago and the F22 raptor demo team was doing their show, which was amazing and the recruiter was working his pitch into the show the whole time. Between the talking points they would play music and the one that stood out the most was BYOB by System of a Down, which is a complete and total 180 to what they were pitching. It was incredible the cognitive disconnect.

Alaska flight incident reveals another feature Boeing didn’t inform pilots about - Federal investigators said that Boeing didn’t make pilots aware that when a plane rapidly depressurizes, the cockp...

Aircraft maintenance has been doing the negative pressure unlock tests on cockpit doors for decades, its honestly surprising what isn't common knowledge. Like others have said, rapid decompression of only a portion of the aircraft is very bad, and will result in massive structural failure as individual compartments aren't pressure rated and will blow apart. The doors I've had experience with had large panels that would pop out when in a negative pressure event.

Trump Abruptly Cancels Another Mainstream TV Interview

Reply in thread

Trump is a figurehead and mouth piece only, it's clear the backing and power behind him is pushing him, not the other way around. If Trump is dead or unelectable then they will sub in someone else. Trump's "saving grace" is that he was good at speaking in a relatable but obfuscating way which worked to foment the masses against imagined grievances, but that's not a trait unique to him. He is unfortunately replaceable with not much loss in momentum.

Most 3d printed guns are constructed very similarly to "real" commercially available (in burgerland) guns that use a polymer construction. The plastic is taking very little of the force, they use metal inserts and rails that the mechanical parts connect to. This distributes the load a lot. I haven't printed any yet, mostly because you basically need to buy a whole gun to build one, but they aren't magic or anything and you could do the same thing with woodworking tools by hand if you had a lot of patience.

State judge upholds most fines against group seeking repeal of Alaska ranked choice voting - Chilkat Valley News

Reply in thread

Exactly my experience as well, I work in a very conservative industry and everyone who mentions rank choice voting blames the R losses on it. The first vote with it, it was clear that they had their head in the sand about how it worked because they thought it would fail, then came the "Rank the red" which didn't work. It's very surprising to them when people don't vote the way they think they should. Their whole attitude is very childish and tribal.

Also it's cool to see another Alaskan on here.

Fun fact, the people who maintain the airplanes we all use are labelled unskilled labor, as a cost savings measure by the airlines. They lobbied for it, to pay them less. Think about that next time you're on a plane.

B.C. mayor says drones endangering wildfire heli pilots, pleads for patience

Aircraft maintenance here, even a tiny drone can cause a lot of damage and potentially cause the aircraft to be down for maintenance for a long time. The rotor blades are tough and would probably be ok to get back to the ground with a tiny 250g drone strike but would require inspections and could possibly damage the rotor beyond continued service and require replacement, which may not be on hand. Anything larger and it could be catastrophic
