Why bother even having kickoffs?
SB nation talked about this and proposed a solution. Basically, the team that scores gets the ball back with a 4th and 15. They'll punt in most circumstances, which is less dangerous and more entertaining than a kickoff, but in a do or die situation they still have a chance.

They can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what they're saying is there are numerous reasons that the world can and will be over in the next decade. The only solution to this, as they see it, is to make everything free and open source. If we don't, we'll all be doomed.
