YouTube is part of Google (Alphabet if you want to use the legal name). It's a much different decision when an unrelated company is using a lot of your resources and not paying for them.

Hundreds of Protestants attended a sermon in Nuremberg given by ChatGPT, which told them not to fear death
At times, the AI-generated avatar inadvertently drew laughter as when it used platitudes and told the churchgoers with a deadpan expression that in order "to keep our faith, we must pray and go to church regularly."
It seems people at the convention attended as a curiosity.

I say that there's a natural asymptotic limit to the current approach to training generative AI and we are already near it. It may take decades for the next breakthrough to be established.

what would Reddit need to do to get you to go back
If they made their mobile web interface usable, I'd use it on mobile. If they keep their old.reddit interface usable, I'll keep using it to some extent. I don't think either of these will happen.
I also think the vast majority won't care unless the moderation bots will be rendered unaffordable to maintain by volunteer mods.

I’m also curious why every page view (to be clear, do you mean every time a post is viewed?) triggers a recalc on the Hot score.
This is the current design, yes. I believe the devs have already started a related issue to change this. I'm assuming the next version of Lemmy will have some major performance improvements.
