While users can be demanding, this reads like a very immature response. Going out of your way to block support and prohibit packaging, which you can let others do with 0 seconds of your time, is kinda rude.

Author may have been harassed for all I know, but this is still an emotional response. They could have just said "yeah I'm not supporting this at all, figure it out yourselves if you want to" rather than actively blocking Linux functionality/packaging, which is what this sounds like.

“Software is over”: Bold AI developer takes aim at Adobe with open source clones

Reply in thread

And that's the AI industry endgame. A world where developers are no more and people can only get software tools or apps from them by paying insane fees.

They want this for everything, not just software. Skillsets, knowledge bases, web searching, reasoning and logic.

They flat out admitted that with statements like "we want intelligence to be a commodity that people buy from us".

They are fascism-craving sociopaths. That's it.

Amazon to replace 600,000 US workers by 2033 with robots

Reply in thread

Depressing bit of the day: I don't have the source with me right now but there was a claim on youtube that the top 1% make up for like half of the consumer market in the USA.

Half of everything sold in dollars is done by the ultra rich. Everyone else is basically irrelevant and driven to extinction under capitalism, if that is accurate.

Record breaker Starmer is the 'most unpopular PM since polling began'

His supposedly labour government has also doubled down on censoring wikipedia, calling people pedo-sympathizers for resisting absurd internet control laws that literally affect every digital facing international company, and is now promoting a digital ID straight out every digital era authoritatians or fascist's wet dreams.

Is he better than sunak? Probably? Kinda? That's a very low bar though and the fact that we even talk about it is sad. Their actions have been so much unlike what people think about when voting labour parties that it's surreal.

People reasonably feel cheated on given the party's supposed focus.

Social media influencer Andrew Tate sues Meta, TikTok for over $50 million for ‘deplatforming’ him

Reply in thread

Private platforms have every right to ban you, even if they just don't like you or your political beliefs. Censorship is mostly happening by the government and systematic media.

And that is why federated platforms are so important. If most people don't wanna see someone's bullshit they can ban him. And he has the right to run his own instance.

Note that I'm not defending Tate here. Many of his words and actions are actually harmful or hateful and he deserves to be arrested.

But there's a line between "illegal/harmful" and "unlikeable" which we need to remember.

Dating Apps Are Dying

Point A) I've tried less frequent "yes" swipes and overall match rate was about the same.

Point B) calling people "low value" sounds like disgusting incel-speech and I think we should all avoid it and embrace the different qualities and virtues we all have.

Is 4chan the Perfect 'Pirate Bay' Poster Child to Justify Wider UK Site-Blocking?

Reply in thread

Because it's not about the kids.

The UK, or any government, could instead use the money for OSA to create a protocol/mandate that phone and net providers need to adhere to, which enables parents to restrict to adult content. Heck, phone-only sims and adult traffic control administered via "parent accounts" would deal with almost the entire problem seeing how most young people use phones for internet access anyways instead of laptops and desktops.

But it's not about the kids. It's about control and having an excuse to abolish privacy.

Valve says there's no end in sight to the memory crisis, and prices are only going to increase: 'Honestly, it's still getting worse'

Even if it worked it wouldn't. Neoliberals and free-market advocates will tell you that competitors would rise up if there were no regulations.

But some industries (like silicon and microchips and other advanced tech) are just impossible to breakthrough without years or decades of setting up and operating without profit vs current players.

And those current players, given no market regulations, will still use their money to do anything possible to stifle upcoming competitors or buy them out.

The dream of capitalism was born pre industrial age, under models of "apples sold at the farmers' market".

The reality is we have advanced a lot and need mixed economies to keep things fair for most people.
