Ads and tracking infiltrated TVs. Now they're coming for monitors.

Reply in thread

Why are we not seeing that with speakers or glasses? Or headphones? There are smart speakers that blast ads when used with the "correct" software. That's been the case since before 2016, but it's not how things generally are. But I still have my ad-free headphones, ad-free computer, ad-free so on and so forth electronic devices. Nobody knows how libre hardware and infrastructure will advance in the next ten years. Removing ads from a smart monitor, should the tech ever happen to gain dominance, will be as easy as connecting a USB C cable and hitting 'flash' on a website.

This belief that everything will turn into a dystopia is as unfounded and unrealistic as the belief that life 10 years from now will be utopian. Just because a news outlet spins up a story does not mean it's going to be the direction things are headed.

It's not about the wealthiest 0.5%, the oligarchs as you'd call them. All of this revolves around the struggle against capitalism. Workers (about 60 to 70% of society depending on the definition and employment rates) against the bourgeoisie (~15% including petit bourgeoisie).

Joining a union or creating one is one of the most subversive things one can do in this day and age. Propaganda for unions is very effective at leveraging the class schism in favour of workers/socialism.

Just don't a union that advocates creating large weaponry or represents law enforcement/servants of the state.

Proper unionising makes capitalists piss their pants. I have read a ton about politics (to my detriment – rip mental health) and it seems to really give you the most bang for your buck.

I would tend to agree on the class party aspect, but as with anything there is an outward motion. The most effective struggle doesn't start at the higher levels of abstraction. Egoism comes first, not in the Stirnerian sense, where people make sure they are not deported by ice, where military service is eschewed, where when arrested the fifth amendment is kept in mind. The next stage would be tenant unions, trade unions, more organised forms of struggle. Then education, reading circles, discussions, talks and so on. I see the party as the capstone of all of these working class interests. Ultimately it becomes the expression of our species' interest towards the end of class struggle.

ICE Is Quietly Rolling Out a $55 Billion Crematorium Network

I think the title is slightly misleading because it is very polemical. If I understood correctly it's not 55 bn USD for crematoriums strictly. The ceiling for ICE camp expenditures has been increased by 45 bn USD from 10 bn USD, in which cremation equipment is included albeit making up only a small share of the costs. The increase alone is so large that everyone here ought to be very concerned.

Please correct me if I'm wrong or have an incomplete angle, because I think when things turn serious an exact understanding is crucial

I know the original poster is joking/trolling, but I am reading animal farm right now and I can't say I'm surprised that so many Americans reference it. It's only one hundred pages long, at that is the edition that has a puffy spacing between the lines and generous margins. It's so becoming to use as a propaganda vehicle against uprisings against oppression, even though Orwell does not strictly advocate capitalism when you read the book closely.

Where I am from there are like 8 different leftists parties laying claim to the same chunk of people. There will be one big and relevant party in the end, but getting there has the danger of a bajillion parties competing and creating noise rather than directed struggle. XKCD standards meme
