My first Friday

Reply in thread

That's going to be a little tough at first, but you'll get used to it pretty fast!

To help that proces going, try to find some things to do.

Summary of my proces (if it's okay if i share that):

  • first couple of weeks/months: i made sure to clean up my house (and keeping it that way) and took some longer showers. Made a little walk as often as i think i could handle. Started eating more veggies and fruit, preparing them is just as helpful as it is for your health! After a while i felt more in control just by doing such simple things.

  • After the first years: i started doing charity work and moved to my own appartment! Within the second year of being sober i managed to also quit smoking. I kept doing the things i listed above, without adding much to it. Now, i felt really in control, but i often had a hard time enjoying the sober life.

  • I'm ~5,5 years further. Now i have managed to pickup even more charity work, i workout 4 times a week for over a year now and even more since last week, i'm learning how to play some instruments and make music, i started a diet a year ago and love eating my everyday carrot snack time, i have healthy and good contact with friends and family, i've renovated my appartment and have some money on the bank, i even joined a photography club and go out with my cameras a lot!

Life has become enjoyable again! I still have moment where everything seems dark, but everyone has that. That's okay. I get through that.
And so do you! You have made the first important steps and you've found your true motivation. The hardest part is over. Now, enjoy your new life. If you ever need to talk, i'm (and we are) here.

Yes, that strenght will protect you. I felt the same for quite some time, but now i'm in my 6th year been sober, all thanks to that strenght! And don't worry about not feeling yourself. Now that you are sober, you actually just started being yourself again! It takes time to get used to that, so just take that time :)

I'm very happy for you! Keep up the good work.

I hope it is the good kind of feeling sad and i didn't make you feel like crap... If so, im truly sorry!

If you enjoyed all those things then, try them out again! But only continue if you feel happy doing them. Don't force it. Take it slow, and just experience it! Whatever you feel, that's okay :)

With 3 guitars and 5 cameras, i'm sure you can pickup the love you had for them again. Creativity is what i love most, and what helps me out the most.

NewPipe, other open-source apps are preparing users for Google's sideloading crackdown on Android

TL;DR

  • Developers of open-source Android apps, including NewPipe, have begun warning users about Google’s upcoming sideloading restrictions.
  • NewPipe’s developers refuse to comply with Google’s proposed verification rules.
  • The app has started to inform users of ways to bypass hurdles, including the proposed 24-hour lockout period before installing “unverified” apps.

Also; fuck Google.

An option to auto-block downvoters

Hello, i downvoted this because i strongly disagree, but that doesn't mean i'm not open to discuss this (are discussions not why platforms like this exist in the first place?). A downvote doesn't mean i don't care, like you suggest.
People should be allowed to agree AND disagree, and still be allowed to explain why they downvote.

How do I get rid of this stupid freaking thing?

Agreed, hate this so much! I used this ADB command:

adb shell settings put secure show_rotation_suggestions 0

Make sure to toggle ' Disable permission monitoring' if your device has such a feature (also located in Developers Settings). If that's not there, the ADB command should be sufficient.

Let me know if it worked for you :)

Looking for a 2025 recommendation for a phone with a headphone jack

I think Sony allows the bootloader to be unlocked, so i would go for the new Xperia 10 vii and just put a beefy case on it to be honest. Not only does it have the 3,5mm jack, but also SD card slot, no stupid punchhole/camera cutout, has a good battery, is a 'normal' size (6.1"). If i didn't went with the Fairphone 6, i'd go for that one.

Those rugged phones are falling short in many ways, and most of them are pricey too. And Motorola isn't what they used to be, sadly.

OnePlus 15 review: The end of range anxiety

"Parts of the phone reached a scorching 130° Fahrenheit, which is hot enough to burn your skin after about 30 seconds. During a few stress tests, the phone completely closed all apps and disabled functions like the LED flash to manage heat".

I know this is during benchmarks and the average consumer would not get anywhere near this, but still... 130°F (54,44°C)?!? I think 113°F (45°C) is already a little too warm to be comfortable...

Stop Android from suggesting Live Wallpapers

That must be Xiaomi's fault... Android does not do such thing. Check the running processes in Developer Settings to see what's running that could cause this. After located, disable/uninstall them, with ADB if needed.

Live wallpapers are often a form of ads. Like Motorola have Live Lockscreen, made and owned by Taboola... This is why you should skip bloated Android devices, unless you use a custom rom or don't mind the extreme debloating.

Those of you who install non-google-play apps (aka: sideloading), what's your gameplan for the upcoming Google restrictions on Sideloading?

Reply in thread

For now... Google is developing AOSP more and more behind closed doors, which is more troubling for other Android based OS's. So even if e/OS is not (much) effected by this 'sideloading' thing, other choices Google makes will destroy something at some point.

If Google is going to build this "sideload protection" in the core of Android, this is going to be very bad, even for e/OS.

Fuck Google.

My Fairphone 6 from Murena (e/OS) review!

I just got both Fairphone's privacy screenprotector and case. Mostly because pretty much nothing else is available yet. So far, so good. The privacy screenprotector actually works pretty good, the case feels a bit strange tho. Probably because i don't have one of their back customization options.

HMD plans to stop selling phones in the US, and you probably know why

Maybe i did not read everything well enough, but did GrapheneOS provide anything other than just 'they do this' and 'they are not secure'? Are there more sources to prove GrapheneOS is not talking nonsense? Not that i'm defending e/os or anything, i'm just really curious to read some proper examples of their (for what i'm now calling) claims.

I've read only but good things about e/os... until this. Saying this while my Fairphone 6 with Murena will be delivered in about 12 hours...

Just got a Fairphone 6, AMA

Is the software buggy? I did not like the Fairphone 5 mainly because of how buggy the Google Android version was... I had random reboots and freezes, framerate issues, UI elements that glitched or didn't fit the screen properly. Hope they were able to fix that by now.

I too have the Gen 6, but i choose the e/OS version. Great phone so far.

My Fairphone 6 from Murena (e/OS) review!

Reply in thread

Maybe so, and maybe i even partly agree. Changing this to: 'As Fair As Possible' would be more in its place.

https://www.fairphone.com/en/impact-report/

For a good read, a link above about Fairphone's report of their way of doing things.

Fairytale or not, I'm just happy that there are companies that not only want to make a profit, but also try to do that as fair as possible. For me, that's worth mentioning.

If I wanted to donate a few dollars a month to the future development of a phone OS that will allow users to continue "sideloading". What is your recommendation, and why?

App and OS developers need to go hand in hand here, i believe. So, also support app(store) developers, because without them, any good deGoogled OS / Linux will still be worthless.
I think the best way to invest for the long run is to start using any OS without any Google API on it (so, completely Google free, not even use spoofservices such as MicroG) and use alternatives for the stuff you use now. Then, when you find software you like, simply start donating / supporting them.
