FantasyClass: Gamification

cross-posted from: https://discuss.tchncs.de/post/35369274

If you're thinking about doing some gamification in your classes next year, I found a website that can help. FantasyClass is an opensource website ( Github ) that can help keep track of student points, XP, levels, and items. It can help your class tell a collective story together throughout the year.

Error Message trying to upload an image.

I tried creating a post with an image in it. I got the following error message displayed in my browser:

{"data":{"files":null,"msg":"Too wide"},"state":"success"}

Is there something wrong with my image? I was trying to reupload this one from reddit: https://preview.redd.it/2jxm187wf4a81.png?width=11320&format=png&auto=webp&s=494d575dd3110b67b37b1c67afa9e713fd258a07

Should I try again after resizing?

Tech Tool: Podsie, Classroom Flashcard Tool with Spaced Repetition

Here's a tool that I haven't seen posted on here that I'm using in my class this year. It's a nonprofit owned tool (and not self promotion).

What I was looking for:

  • I wanted something like Anki for individual student daily review. But I wanted a way to grade the quick practice (for the start of class). I also wanted a way to give them credit for doing their reviews in class or as homework.

Why I like it:

  • I can make the cards
  • Students get individual reviews based on how they did on that card in the past.
  • Students can be given a grade for doing their reviews, no matter how they preform on them. (Making low stakes practice get points)
  • Cards can be tied to standards

What I don't necessarily like:

  • I have to make all cards (there is an AI tool, but I haven't gotten wide success with it)
  • There's not a cloze type card (Multiple fill-in-the-blanks get converted to multiple cards)

Recommendations Wanted: Digital Whiteboard

Hey All!

I've been a longtime Doceri user and its lack of support (since January 2023) has finally bit me. It's time once again to find new software (and possibly hardware) to become a digital whiteboard.

Here's my current setup:

  • Classroom Desktop Windows PC connected to a projector running Doceri and PowerPoint
  • Apple iPad running Doceri
  • Unused Apple TV connected to projector via another input

Here's my preferred requirements:

  • Ability to annotate presentation docs / pdfs
  • One time cost (in the hundreds are fine) preferred, but a low yearly/monthly cost (in the $50 range or less) is also acceptable
  • The ability to walk around wirelessly
  • The ability to record 20 - 60 minute videos (preferrably able to upload to YouTube)
  • I would love to transition to an Android tablet with a stylus

Anyone have any suggestions that they've tried? I understand that I could screen record / screen share for the iPad, but I'm also looking for a new whiteboard app.
