Removal of piracy communities

"we are just looking out for ourselves in a 'better safe than sorry' fashion while we find out more."
This is an unfortunate aspect of individuals/small groups housing the fediverse vs big companies. Big companies have lawyers and the capital to back them, individuals do not.
If I was in your shoes, I'd do the same thing. I appreciate your wish for thus to be temporary. I hope you will share your findings once you come to a final decision; information like this is relevant to all those managing servers.

Joe Biden wants more people to start living in empty offices
Reply in thread
if the offices are empty, why not use that money for a government program to guarantee down payments of first time home buyers?
The Biden administration is doing that also, it just doesn't make as good a headline.

Thank you so much for all of the effort and time all of you are putting into this situation. Having to deal with bad actors is one thing, but you are now dealing with images that are traumatizing to view.
Please, for your sanity and overall well being, PLEASE take care of yourself. Yes, it sucks about having to close !lemmyshitpost, but self-care and support are of the utmost importance.

A Democratic representative just introduced the 'My Constituents Cannot Afford Rebellious Tantrums, Handle Your Shutdown Act' to halt congressional pay during a government shutdown
"because it's ridiculous that we still get paid while folks like TSA workers are asked to work without a paycheck."
According to the bill, the paycheck of each member of Congress would be temporarily cut "one day's worth of pay" for every day the government is out of operation. If it ultimately passes, members of Congress will receive the full amount that was deducted from their paychecks at the end of the congressional session.
Do "folks like TSA workers" get the full amount that was deducted returned at the end of the confessional session?

When you're a kid, you don't realize you're also watching your mom and dad grow up.
I always thought the universe did a nasty by making the ideal breeding age for humans to be when it really is one of the worst times mentally/emotionally. 20 or so yrs later when more experience (and hopefully wisdom) has been gained, the eggs are shrivelling and the bullets are misfiring.

Walmart to *lower* wages by $1, possibly setting industry standard
Reply in thread
I wish I could shop at Walmart less; there's nothing near by that fits my budget. I truly believe this is a tactic for Walmart to recoup their money; pay their employees less, forcing their employees to shop at Walmart because they can't afford anything else.

FACT SHEET: Treasury Department Releases First-Of-Its-Kind Report on Benefits of Unions to the U.S. Economy
Funny this press release came out Aug 28, and not a single whisper in the news about it.

Interesting the issue was with her being called "tramp", and not with it being insinuated that she was having an "affair" with a gorilla.

What is the difference between Active and Hot on your Lemmy feed?
"Active (default): Calculates a rank based on the score and time of the latest comment, with decay over time
Hot: Like active, but uses time when the post was published"
https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/03-votes-and-ranking.html#votes-and-ranking
With that said... I have seen people comment in the past month that the active vs hot sorting might be a bit buggy still. Most (including myself) seem to prefer using the various top sorts.
Hope that helps!

PSA: Let’s fill Kbin/Lemmy with content to attract and KEEP new users
Thank you for everyone's efforts to make the shift from Reddit as smooth as possible. I am normally a lurker/casual Redditor and will likely continue to be so in the Fediverse, but I want to say how much I greatly appreciate how welcoming people have been. I really hope the transition goes as smoothly for original users, and I will do my best to be as minimally invasive as possible.

Right?! I have little dignity anyway; losing what's left to pet an unknown, outdoor cat is totally worth it.

Absolutely this. Roombas are like stupid puppies; you think you have the house roomba proof, only to come home to find it stuck in some obscure corner, whining pathetically.
