Yes, but this formalizes things, possibly putting in place policies and SOPs and uniformly agreed upon structures
Not to mention, depending on the legal structure, tax benefits and cash pooling and other financial benefits

Half of these problems would be solved with a tagging system like on Reddit, then you could just block by tags
I'm pretty sure PieFed rolled out a tagging system, but clients haven't caught up yet

GrapheneOS Isn't Happy With Google Over Pixel's Widening Head Start
Reply in thread
Probably, but not just on the market, picked up and sold by the carriers.
Currently Pixels are the only phones where you can unlock the bootloader (ironically) that are also freely purchasable from carriers (which is how most people buy their phones here) in the US

::: spoiler Why am I cross-posting .ml content?
I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don't want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some niche comms.
Some highlights from the link:
"Don't worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167
"See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn't count!!" ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342
.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558 The original transphobic Comment from Nutomic: https://lemmy.world/post/18236068
"NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035
General negative sentiment to other instances who haven't "seen the way" yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510
"If you don't support Russia then you just don't understand geopolitics" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415
And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can't even put them all here because this comment would be really long.
I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda
On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like "Lemmy? Isn't that the place with a bunch of tankies?" Or "Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left". The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team. :::

Well, it is, just not in a good way that BSky implements
But
ActivityPub (the protocol behind Mastodon, Pixelfed, Pleroma, and others) planned for the near future. Currently in alpha
If they do that, then it will be for sure, it's still alpha so hopefully they mean it when they say "near future"

That actually didn't make sense, but I haven't really kept up with Pepes history, so I looked it up
No, it was never supposed to be nor did it during its initial rise in popularity, those shit bags are trying to steal it, and the original creator hates what they try to appropriate it for
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepe_the_Frog
originally an apolitical character in Furie's works and its original internet popularity, Pepe was appropriated from 2015 onward as a symbol of the alt-right white nationalist movement.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) included Pepe in its hate symbol database in 2016, but said most instances of Pepe were not used in a hate-related context.
Since then, Furie has expressed his dismay at Pepe being used as a hate symbol and has sued organizations for doing so; the history of Pepe and Furie's attempt to dissociate the character from the alt-right were covered in the 2020 documentary film Feels Good Man.
In 2019, Pepe was used by protesters in the 2019–2020 Hong Kong protests; conversely to its western political use, Pepe the Frog's symbolism in Hong Kong is not perceived as being connected with alt-right ideology, and was welcomed by Furie.
[~]
In May 2016, Olivia Nuzzi of The Daily Beast wrote that there was "an actual campaign to reclaim Pepe from normies" and that "turning Pepe into a white nationalist icon" was an explicit goal of some on the alt-right.
[~]
In an interview with Esquire, Furie said of Pepe's usage as a hate symbol, "It sucks, but I can't control it more than anyone can control frogs on the Internet".
Fantagraphics Books, Furie's publisher, issued a statement condemning the "illegal and repulsive appropriations of the character".
The Anti-Defamation League, an American organization opposed to antisemitism, included Pepe in its hate symbol database but wrote that most instances of Pepe were not used in a hate-related context.
Writing in Time on October 13, 2016, Furie said that "I understand that it's out of my control, but in the end, Pepe is whatever you say he is, and I, the creator, say that Pepe is love."
The next day, the ADL announced that it had partnered with Furie to launch the #SavePepe (or "Save Pepe") campaign, an attempt to associate the symbol with positivity.
As part of that campaign, Furie collected hundreds of "positive or peaceful" versions of Pepe to store in an online "Peace Pepe Database of Love". On October 17, 2016, Furie published a satirical take of Pepe's appropriation by the alt-right movement on The Nib.

Cheapest way to back up a *lot* of data?
Reply in thread
I'm heavily researching tape for my data, I currently sit around 400TBs Total but only around 200 in data that id actually want to backup and can't just redownload.
Iirc the break even point 100-150TB
ETA: that break even point might actually be lower now that I think about it since that number is probably outdated when I did it and doesn't account for the shortage crap

I Started Identifying Corporate Devices in My Software
Reply in thread
I wonder if it’s time FOSS projects started taking the view that liberty is for individuals and not corporate use, and license accordingly.
I think so, I think it should have been like that from the beginning tbh. Corporations have plenty of money to support projects that support them, there's really no excuse

Exclusive: Judges clear ICC’s Karim Khan over sexual misconduct claims
Reply in thread
It is rare, but does happen (and absolutely not to a degree where it's acceptable to immediately dismiss an accusation) and if there was ever a case for it to actually happen
The allegations of misconduct against Khan have unfolded against the backdrop of the prosecutor’s efforts to pursue an investigation against Israeli officials over alleged war crimes committed by Israeli forces in Gaza and other occupied Palestinian territories.
Khan sought arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then defence minister Yoav Gallant in May 2024, and the court has faced a ferocious campaign by Israel and its allies, primarily the US, attempting to pressure him to drop the investigation.
Since February 2025, US President Donald Trump's administration has imposed financial and visa sanctions on Khan, his two deputy prosecutors, six judges, the UN’s special rapporteur on Palestine, and three Palestinian NGOs in connection with the Israel-Palestine investigation.
This would be it, the guy was an enemy in Israel's eyes, it wouldn't be a stretch that they'd set something like this up lol

GraphineOS being targeted by France

And just as trustworthy as devices that are equivalent to desktop Hardware with UEFI, IntelME, etc.
So you mean like.....99% of all hardware in the world? Lol
If you're that hardcore into privacy or your threat model justifies it, then grapheneos isn't for you because you're already well prepared to make significant compromise and/or expense to pursue that goal.
GrapheneOS is more about leveling up more common people's privacy
