Megathread for Reddit Blackouts and News - Week 1

If you use Power Delete Suite there is the option to download your comments before editing (or just download). However it's not great if you've got years of comments. If you click the download button it caps out at about 65k. But if you inspect the button the full export is available in the href so you can copy that into notepad. However the formatting is not great (CSV unfriendly characters are escaped), so it's a bit of a clean up.

There is the alternative of requesting all your data from Reddit itself. A preview I saw from someone else shows a more extensive dataset than you get from PDS. I'm still waiting on my data request (it's only been a day and it can take up 30 days).

Weekend Warm-up Pundit Prediction Performance

(Late because I had to wait 16 hours before I could watch and spent the entire day avoiding spoilers)

Pundit1st2nd3rdPoints
JamesMaxSergioLewis4
JolyonMaxLewisGeorge3
LauraMaxCarlosLando3
LawrenceMaxCharlesCarlos2

James picks up useful points on debut. Jolyon can't match the clean-sweep of his only previous appearance this season. Laura the only one to put Lando on the podium gets an extra point for her efforts.

Season so far:

Pundit (appearances)PointsAverage
Laura (8)212.63
Lawrence (8)192.38
Jolyon (3)134.33
Will (6)91.50
Rosanna (2)84.00
James (1)44.00
Alex (1)44.00
Sam (1)22.00

Laura puts another point between herself at the top of the table and Lawrence. If Jolyon makes any more appearances he may have a chance to catch second.#

Hopefully today will be better than yesterday. Had a power cut. Friends down the road also lost power. Called power co, they logged with lines co. As it got darker I then noticed neighbours had power, took a tour around - yes we were the only ones out. Called back power co to find out where lines co was. They were dispatched 20 minutes ago, still took another hour to show up (still night so no mass storm damage to hold things up). Lines co finally arrived, discovered that our point of entry had burnt out and needed replacement by electrician. This is 8.30pm. House is dark, no heating. Looked for a sparky (found one through our local FB group and then tracked him down to find a number). He came and replaced, then had to call back power co to tell lines co to come back out to reconnect. Back on at midnight.

Awaiting invoice....

Just received the invoice from the sparky after our mains entry point burnt out and needed an after-hours replacement. It's in the ballpark I was expecting (in fact maybe a bit under), but not so high that it's worth going through house insurance to only save a couple of hundred once I pay the excess.

Weekend Warm-up Pundit Predictions Performance

Laura playing it safer than Lawrence and Will gives her an extra two points (who is Ferrari, anyway?).

Laura extends her lead even further. Lawrence has a lot of work to do to keep in contention.

Ignoring Max, Laura's the only one to make any accurate predictions after Checo's improved performance. Ferrari being Ferrari is detrimental to Alex and Sam.

Pundit (appearances)PointsAverage
Laura (9)252.78
Lawrence (8)192.38

James (1)44.00

Laura increases her lead as we head to Belgium for the last race before summer break.

Aotearoa Daily Kōrero 6/9/2023

We're having the discussion in the office about getting a coffee machine - the main issue is that the kitchen is near the work area where people spend a lot of time on Teams, and they can get quite noisy. Today's whiteboard poll is Coffee Machine or Air Fryer.

Having just recently got an air fryer at home and just discovered the joys of air-fried bacon, I'm still on the side of Coffee Machine.
